Dear Customer, Thank you for choosing Fiat and congratulations on your choice of a Fiat Linea. We have written this handbook to help you get to know all the features of your car and use it in the best possible way. You should read it right through before taking to the road for the first time. You will find information, tips and important warnings regarding the driving of your car to help you get the most from the technological features of your Fiat.
VERY IMPORTANT REFUELLING K Petrol engines: refuel only with unleaded petrol with an octane rating (RON) of no less than 95 conforming to the European specification EN 228. Diesel engines: refuel only with diesel fuel conforming to the European specification EN590. The use of other products or mixtures may damage the engine beyond repair and consequently invalidate the warranty depending on the damage caused.
ELECTRICAL ACCESSORIES If, after buying the car, you decide to add electrical accessories (with the risk of gradually draining the battery), contact a Fiat Dealership. They can calculate the overall electrical requirement and check that the vehicle electric system can support the required load. CODE CARD (for versions/markets where provided) Keep it in a safe place, not in the car. Make sure you have the electronic code written on the CODE card with you at all times.

fig. 99 F0R0083m HEADLIGHT ALIGNMENT CORRECTOR Headlight alignment adjustment fig. 99 This device works with the key at MAR and the dipped beam headlights on. The car will tilt backwards when it is loaded, raising the light beam. The beams must therefore be realigned in this case. The display located on the instrument panel provides a visual indication of the adjustment position. To adjust, press buttons Ò and on the control panel. Position 0 – one or two passengers on front seats.
DASHBOARD AND CONTROLS The system is completed by EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), which distributes the braking action between front and rear wheels. IMPORTANT For the maximum efficiency of the braking system, a bedding-in period of about 500 km is needed (for a new vehicle or after having replaced the brake pads/discs): during this period it is better to avoid sharp, repeated and prolonged braking.
The ESP system is therefore particularly useful when road surface grip changes. In addition to the ESP system, ASR system and Hill Holder, the MSR system (adjusting the engine braking torque) and the HBA system (improving the braking force during emergency braking) are also provided (for versions/markets where provided). SYSTEM INTERVENTION It is signalled by the flashing of the warning light á on the instrument panel, to inform the driver that the car is in critical stability and grip conditions.

To fasten the seat belts, hold the tongue A and insert it into the buckle B, until the locking click is heard. On removal, if it jams, let it rewind for a short stretch, then pull it out again without jerking.
Always adjust the height of the seat belt to fit the person wearing it: this precaution can dramatically reduce the risk of injury in case of collision. Correct adjustment is obtained when the belt passes approximately half way between the shoulder and the neck. To adjust, move the grip A-fig. 3 of the locking mechanism either up or down and at the same time move the swinging ring B-fig. 3 to the most suitable of the allowed positions.
DASHBOARD AND CONTROLS SAFETY Anything that modifies its original conditions invalidates its efficiency. The seat belt locks to indicate that the device has intervened; the seat belt cannot be drawn back up even when guiding it manually. IMPORTANT To obtain the highest degree of protection from the action of the pretensioner, wear the seat belt keeping it tight to the chest and pelvis. A slight amount of smoke may be detected during operation of the pretensioners.
DASHBOARD AND CONTROLS WARNING For maximum safety, keep the back of your seat upright, lean back into it and make sure the seat belt fits closely across your chest and pelvis. Always fasten the seat belts on both the front and the rear seats! Travelling without seat belts will increase the risk of severe injury and even death in the event of an accident.

If the level is low, slowly pour a mixture of 50% distilled water and 50% PARAFLUUP WARNING Do not remove the reservoir cap when the engine is very hot: you may be scalded. The cooling system is pressurised. If necessary, only replace the cap with another genuine one or the operation of the system may be adversely affected.
For topping-up, always use a funnel with integrated filter with mesh equal to or lower than 0.12 mm. INDEX TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS SERVICING AND CARE IN AN EMERGENCY WARNING LIGHTS AND MESSAGES STARTING UP AND DRIVING SAFETY DASHBOARD AND CONTROLS NOTE Carefully clean the reservoir cap A and the surrounding surface. WARNING Do not travel if the windscreen washer reservoir is empty: using the windscreen washer is essential for improving visibility.
The level may go over the MAX mark when the oil is hot. If topping up is required, make sure the new oil has the same specifications as that already in the system. WARNING LIGHTS AND MESSAGES IN AN EMERGENCY Check that the oil level with the car on flat ground and the engine cold is between the MIN and MAX marks on the reservoir body. SERVICING AND CARE POWER STEERING FLUID – fig. 12 WARNING Do not allow the power steering system fluid to come into contact with hot engine parts, as it is flammable.
DASHBOARD AND CONTROLS BATTERY Have the air cleaner replaced by a Fiat Dealership. The car is fitted with a low-maintenance battery: no top-ups with distilled water are needed in standard conditions of use. DASHBOARD AND CONTROLS WARNING Always wear appropriate goggles when working on or near the battery. SAFETY Incorrect assembly of electric and electronic devices may cause severe damage to your car. Go to a Fiat Dealership if you want to install accessories (alarms, mobile phone, etc.): they will suggest the most suitable devices and advise you whether a higher capacity battery needs to be installed.
DASHBOARD AND CONTROLS SAFETY STARTING UP AND DRIVING WARNING LIGHTS AND MESSAGES IN AN EMERGENCY SERVICING AND CARE INDEX TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS 192 USEFUL ADVICE FOR EXTENDING THE LIFE OF YOUR BATTERY To avoid draining your battery and make it last longer, observe the following instructions: ❒ when you park the car, ensure the doors, tailgate and bonnet are closed properly, to prevent any light from remaining on inside the passenger compartment; ❒ the internal roof lights must be off.
B low pressure: tread particularly worn at the edges. ❒ Avoid braking suddenly, burning starts and violent knocks against curbs, potholes or other obstacles if possible. Driving for long stretches over bumpy roads can damage the tyres; C high pressure: tread particularly worn in the centre. ❒ check the tyres regularly for cuts on the sides, swelling or irregular tread wear. Contact a Fiat Dealership if required; The tyres must be replaced when the tread is less than 1.6 mm thick.
DASHBOARD AND CONTROLS INDEX TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS SERVICING AND CARE IN AN EMERGENCY WARNING LIGHTS AND MESSAGES STARTING UP AND DRIVING SAFETY WARNING If the pressure is too low, the tyre will overheat and could be seriously damaged. 194 WARNING Avoid switching the tyres from the right side of the vehicle to the left side and vice versa.
