DASHBOARD AND CONTROLS SAFETY DEVICES CORRECT USE OF THE CAR WARNING LIGHTS AND MESSAGES IN AN EMERGENCY INDEX TECHNICAL CAR SPECIFICATIONS MAINTENANCE 92 ABS SYSTEM If you have never driven a car with ABS before, it is advisable to perform a few tests on slippery ground, naturally in conditions of safety and respecting the Highway Code of the country where you are driving. Read the following information carefully.
In addition to the ESP system, ASR system and Hill Holder, (where provided) also the MSR system (adjusting the engine braking torque) and the HBA system (improving the braking force during emergency braking) are provided. ABS SYSTEM INTERVENTION WARNING When the ABS cuts in, and you feel the brake pedal pulsating, do not remove your foot, but keep it pressed; in doing so you will stop in the shortest amount of space possible under the current road conditions.
DASHBOARD AND CONTROLS HILL HOLDER SYSTEM Failure indications The ESP system is automatically activated when the car is started and cannot be de-activated. This system is an integral part of the ESP system and it is provided to facilitate starting on slopes. Warning light è on the instrument panel will light up in the event of a failure (see “Warning lights and messages”).
The action of the ASR is particularly helpful in the following circumstances: ❒ slipping of the inner wheel due to the effect of dynamic load changes or excessive acceleration; ❒ too much power transmitted to the wheels also in relation to the conditions of the road surface; ❒ acceleration on slippery, snowy or frozen surfaces; ❒ in the case of loss of grip on a wet surface (aquaplaning).
DASHBOARD AND CONTROLS SAFETY DEVICES CORRECT USE OF THE CAR WARNING LIGHTS AND MESSAGES IN AN EMERGENCY INDEX TECHNICAL CAR SPECIFICATIONS MAINTENANCE 96 WARNING Do not take unnecessary risks, even if your cars fits such a system. IMPORTANT Never use leaded petrol, even in small amount or in an emergency, as this would damage the catalyst beyond repair. When using or parking the car for a long time in the mountains or cold areas, it is advisable to refuel using locally available fuel. In this case, it is also advisable to keep the tank over 50% full. Filling the tank To fill the tank completely, top-up twice after the pump switches off. IMPORTANT Reverse may only be engaged when the car is at a standstill.
Car maintenance Have checks and adjustments carried out in accordance with the “Service schedule”. Tyres Check tyre pressure regularly at least once every four weeks: excessively low pressure will increase consumption because rolling resistance will be higher. Unnecessary loads Do not travel with too much luggage stowed in the boot. The weight of the car (especially when driving in town) and its trim greatly affects consumption and stability. Use electric devices only for the amount of time needed.
DASHBOARD AND CONTROLS SAFETY DEVICES CORRECT USE OF THE CAR WARNING LIGHTS AND MESSAGES IN AN EMERGENCY INDEX TECHNICAL CAR SPECIFICATIONS MAINTENANCE 128 Top speed Fuel consumption considerably increases as speed increases. Keep your speed as even as possible, avoiding unnecessary braking and acceleration which cause excessive fuel consumption and increase emissions.
WARNING Never modify the braking system of the car to control the trailer brake. The trailer braking system must be fully independent from the hydraulic system of the car. For connections use the preset control unit with battery cable no less than 2.5 mm2. For the electric connection a unified connector should be used which is generally placed on a special bracket normally fastened to the towing device, and a special ECU for external trailer light control shall be installed on the car.

INDEX TECHNICAL CAR SPECIFICATIONS MAINTENANCE IN AN EMERGENCY WARNING LIGHTS AND MESSAGES CORRECT USE OF THE CAR SAFETY DEVICES When the car is new, the engine needs to run in, therefore the engine oil consumption can only be considered stabilised after the first 5,000 - 6,000 km. 186 fig. 3 - 1.4 version F0R0134m ENGINE OIL fig.
DASHBOARD AND CONTROLS If the level is low, slowly pour a 50% mixture of demineralised water and FL Selenia PARAFLU UP through filler A of the vessel until the level approaches the MAX line. ENGINE COOLANT fig. 5 The coolant level must be checked when the engine is cold and must be between the MIN and MAX lines on the vessel. PARAFLU UP antifreeze is used in the engine cooling system. Use fluid of the same type contained in the cooling system for top-ups.
DASHBOARD AND CONTROLS SAFETY DEVICES CORRECT USE OF THE CAR WARNING LIGHTS AND MESSAGES IN AN EMERGENCY INDEX TECHNICAL CAR SPECIFICATIONS MAINTENANCE 188 Check level through the reservoir. Prevent brake fluid which is highly corrosive from coming into contact with painted parts. Wash with water immediately if this should happen. WARNING Do not travel with the windscreen washing reservoir empty: the windscreen washer is fundamental to improve visibility. fig.
Check that the oil level with the car on flat ground and the engine cold is between the MIN and MAX lines on the reservoir body. The level may go over the MAX line when the oil is hot. If topping up is required, make sure the oil you used has the same specifications as that already in the system. Oil consumption is extremely low; if another top-up should be required after only a short period of time, have the system checked for leakage at a Fiat Dealership.

Replace the blades if the rubber edge is deformed or worn. In all cases, it is advisable to replace them approximately once a year. A few simple precautions can reduce the possibility of damage to the blades: ❒ make sure that the rubber part is not stuck to the windscreen at sub-zero temperatures. Use an antifreeze product to release it if required.
DASHBOARD AND CONTROLS How to insert the blade: ❒ insert the blade fastening tabs in the hole on the end of the arm; fig. 11 F0R0236m Windscreen washer fig. 12 ❒ raise the windscreen wiper arm A from the windscreen; If there is no jet of fluid, firstly check that there is fluid in the reservoir: see “Checking fluid levels” in this section). IN AN EMERGENCY How to remove the blade: ❒ remove the blade from pin C.
❒ salty air and humidity (coastal areas, or hot humid climates); ❒ seasonal environment conditions. Not to be underestimated is also the abrasive action of wind-borne atmospheric dust and sand and mud and gravel raised by other cars. On your car, Fiat implemented the best manufacturing technologies to effectively protect the bodywork against corrosion.
