The3-poleXLRconnectorsarealmostalwaysusedforconductingmono-
balancedsignals;thethreepolescorrespondrespectivelytoground(1),
thepositivesignal(2)andthenegativesignal(3).
SPEAKONisaconnectorwhichisspeciallyadaptedforconnectingpower
terminalstoloudspeakers;wheninsertedinanappropriatesocket,itlocks
soastopreventaccidentaldisconnection;moreover,itisequippedwith
protectionagainstelectricalshocksandguaranteesthecorrect
polarisation.
TheRCAcannotbebalancedastheyhavejusttwopoles:signal(central
point)andground(perimeter);theyarethereforeunbalancedmono
connectors.
TheJACKSaretypicalconnectorsforthetransportingoftwoseparate
signalsthroughtwochannels,leftandright,usingasingleconnectorand
thereforetheycanbeeithermonoorstereo.Monojacks(TS),alsoknown
asunbalancedjacks,arerecognisablefromstereoorbalancedjacks
(TRS)bytheircomposition.Thepointofthemonojacksisdividedintotwo
parts,tipandground(TipandSlave)towhichthetwopolesareconnected;
thestereoorbalancedjacksaredividedinthreeparts,astheyhavea
centralring(Ring)whichisconnectedtoasecondwire,thethird(negative)
pole.
