FallTechifyouhaveanyquestionsaboutcompatibility.Connectorsmustbecompatiblewiththeanchorageorothersystemcomponents.Donotuse
equipmentthatisnotcompatible.Noncompatibleconnectorsmayunintentionallydisengage.Connectorsmustbecompatibleinsize,shape,andstrength.

3.3CompatibilityofComponents:Equipmentisdesignedforusewithapprovedcomponentsandsubsy
stemsonly.Substitutionsorreplacementsmade
withnon‐ANSIZ359compliantcomponentsorsubsystemsmayjeopardizecompatibilityofequipmentandmayaffectthesafetyandreliabilityofthe
completesystem.EnsurecompatibilitybetweentheconnectorsifnonFallTechcomponentsareusedforfallprotection.
3.4MakingConnections:Onlyuseselflockingsnaphooks,rebarhooks,andcarabinerswiththisequipment.Onlyuseconnectorsthataresuitabletoeach
application.Ensureallconnectionsarecompatibleinsize,shapeandstrength.Donotuseequipmentthatisnotcompatible.Visuallyensureallconnectors
closeandlockcompletely.Connectors(snaphooks,rebarhooks,andcarabiners)aredesignedforuseonlyasspecifie
dinthismanual.SeeFigure13in
AppendixB.
3.5PersonalFallArrestSystem:APFASisanassemblyofcomponentsandsubsystemsusedtoarrestapersonduringafallevent.APFASistypically
composedofananchorageandaFBH,withanenergyabsorbingconnectingdevice,i.e
.,aSAL,anSRD,oraFallArresterConnectingSubsystem(FACSS)
attachedtothedorsalDringoftheFBH.PFAScomponentsusedwiththisequipmentmustmeetapplicableANSIZ359requirementsandOSHAregulations.
OSHArequiresapersonalfallarrestsystembeabletoarresttheworker’sfallwithamaximumarrestingforceof1,800lbs.,andlimitthefreefallto6feet
orless.Ifthemaximumfreefalldistancemustbeexceeded,theemployermustdocument,basedontestdata,thatthemaximumarrestingforcewillnot
beexceeded,andthepersonalfallarrestsystemwillfunctionproperly.
3.5.1AverageArrestForce,ArrestDistance:TheSRDdiscussedinthismanualisclassifiedbyANSIZ359.14asaClassBdevice,whichallowsforamaximum
arrestdistanceof54”.Theunitdiscussedinthismanualhasanarrestdistanceof28”.TheSRDdiscussedinthismanualalsomeetsANSIrequirementsofan
AverageArrestForceoflessthan900lbs.

AuthorizedPerson:Apersonassignedbytheemployertoperformdutiesatalocationwherethepersonwillbeexposedtoafallhazard(otherwise

CertifiedAnchorage:Ananchorageforfallarrest,positioning,restraint,orrescuesystemsthataQualifiedPersoncertifiestobecapableofsupportingthe
potentialfallforcesthatmaybeencounteredduringafallorthatmeetthecriteriaforacertifiedanchorageprescribedinthisstandard.
CompetentPerson:Onewhoiscapableofidentifyingexistingandpredictablehazardsinthesurroundingsorworkingconditionswhichareunsanitary,
