1.DESCRIPTION
TheFallTech®6'DuraTech™WebSRDisaselfretractinglifelineforthoseworkingatheight.Atthetopoftheunit,aswivelingaluminumeyeprovidesan
attachmentpointforaselfclosingandselflockingconnector.TheSRDbodyconsistsofaglassfillednylonhousingthatcontainsa6'lengthofhigh
performancepolyethyleneandpolyesterfiberwebbingwoundontoaspringtensioneddrum.Theattachmentendofthewebbingmaybeconfiguredwith
avarietyofsewnonconnectors.Astitchedfoldinthelifelinebetweenthehousingandthelegendconnectorfunctionsasaretractionstopandafall
arrestimpactindicator.Ifthestitchingistornloose,
removetheunitfromservice.
Whenattachedandtheworkermovesabout,thelifelinepaysoutandretracts,automaticallymaintainingatautline.Ifafalloccurs,acentrifugalsystem
engagesalockmechanismthatappliesadiscbrake,slowingandarrestingthefall.
Forpurposesofthismanual,the6'DuraTechWebSRDmaybereferredtoastheequipment,thedevice,theproduct,ortheunit.SeeTables1A,1Band
1C,andFigure1inAppendixA.Itisrecommendedthattheuseroftheequipmentdiscussedinthismanualreadandunderstandtheentiremanualbefore
beginningwork.

1.3ANSIStandardsandOSHARegulations:ANSIstandardZ359.14setsperformancerequirementsforSRDs,basedondynamictesting,andiscomprisedof
twoclassifications;ClassA,andClassB.TheSRDdiscussedinthismanualhasbeentestedtoandconformstoANSIZ359.14standardsforaClassBdevice.
ThesetestsincludeDynamicPe
rformanceTesting,DynamicStrengthTesting,StaticStrengthTesting,andRetractionTensionTesting.TheSRDwasalso
testedforStaticStrengthperOSHAregulations.Seeparagraph3.5.1.
2.APPLICATION
2.1Purpose:AnSRDisdesignedforuseasacomponentinaPFAS,toprovideacombinationofworkermobilityandfallprotectionasrequiredforinspection
work,generalconstruction,maintenancework,oilproduction,confinedspaceworkoranyapplicationwherefallprotectionandworkermobilityisrequired.
TheDuraTechSRDisintendedforPersonalFallArrestapplicationsonly.TheSRDisnotdesignednorsuitedforuseinrestraint,personnelriding,
suspension,workpositioning,orrescueapplications.DoNOTusetheSRDfortheseapplicationsexceptasabackupPFAS.
2.2PersonalFallArrestSystem:APFASistypicallycomposedofananchorageandaFBH,withanenergyabsorbingconnectingdevice,i.e
.,aSAL,anSRD,
oraFallArresterConnectingSubsystem(FACSS),attachedtothedorsalDringofproperlyfittedandadjustedFBH.AllusesandapplicationsofaFBHwiththis
equipmentrequirestheFBHtobeproperlyfittedandadjustedtotheuser.FailuretoproperlyfittheFBHtotheusercouldresul
tinseriousinjuryordeath.
TheSRDmaybeinstalledonaFBH,orattachedtoasuitableanchorage.SeeSection4foradditionaldetails.
2.3SRDOrientationinFallArrest:The6'SRDisaversatiledesign,capableofmultipleattachmentorientationoptions,eitherasasinglele
gunit,orasa
twinlegunit,asshowninFigures2A,2B,and2CofAppendixA.
2.3.1SingleSRD:OneSRDwithtwoorientationoptions;
AsasinglelegSRDwiththehousingendattachedtothedorsalDringofaFBHandthelegendconnecte
dtoananchorage.Theanchoragemaybe
anywhereintheallowableanchoragerange,fromoverhead(directlyoverheadtotheleveloftheDring)tononoverhead(fromtheleveloftheDring
toamaximumof2'belowtheDring).SeeFigure2AinAppendixA.
AsasinglelegSRDwiththehousingendattachedtoananchorageandthelegendconnectedtotheFBHdorsalDring.Theanchoragemaybe
anywhereintheallowableanchoragerange,fromoverhead(directlyoverheadtotheleveloftheDring)tononoverhead(fromtheleveloftheDring
