2.
APPLICATION
2.1Purpose:Thesystemsandequipmentdiscussedinthismanualareintendedforuseaspart
ofaPFASorrestraintsystem.
2.2PersonalFallArrestSystem:AVLL,combinedwithafallarrestor(grab),andaSAL,formsa
FallArrestorConnectorSubsystem(FACSS).TheFACSS,combinedwithananchorageandan
FBH,
formsaPFAS,usedtoarresttheuserduringafallevent.Maximumpermissiblefreefallis
sixfeet.
2.3FallRestraint:TheVLL,whenusedwithanon‐trailing(manual)grabanddesignedand
installedbyaCompetentPerson,maybeconfiguredasarestraintsystemusedinfallrestraint,
topreventtheuserfromreaching afallhazard.Nofreefallispermitted.
2.4Rescue,Positioning,Riding,Climbing:TheVLLisnotsuitedforrescue,positioning,ridingor
climbingapplications.SeeANSIZ359.4‐2007.
2.5ApplicationLimits:Takeactiontoavoidsharpedges,abrasivesurfaces,andthermal,
electricalandchemicalhazards.
3.SYSTEMREQUIREMENTS
3.1Capacity:Theropegrabs,connectors,VLLs,andSALscoveredinthismanual,which
collectivelycompriseaPFAS,areANSIZ359compliant,withalistedtotalcapacity,including
clothing,tools,etc.,ofnomorethan310lbs.,(140.6kg),NomorethanoneVLLmaybe
connectedtooneanchoragedeviceatonetime.
3.2CompatibilityofConnectors:Connectorsareconsideredtobecompatiblewithconnecting
elementswhentheyhavebeendesignedtoworktogetherinsuchawaythattheirsizesand
shapesdonotcausetheirgatemechanismstoinadvertentlyopenregardlessofhowthey
becomeoriented.ContactFallTechifyouhaveanyquestionsaboutcompatibility.Connectors
mustbecompatiblewiththeanchorageorothersystemcomponents.Donotuseequipment
thatisnotcompatible.Non‐compatibleconnectors mayunintentionallydisengage.Connectors
mustbecompatibleinsize,shape,andstrength.Self‐closing,self‐lockingsnaphooksand
carabinersarespec
ifiedbyOSHAandANSI.
