4.1GeneralInstallationRequirements:Thetripodisdesignedforconfinedspaceentryandegress,fallprotection,rescueandevacuation,and
materialhandling.TheusermustperformspecificjobhazardanalysesinaccordancewithOSHAregulations.Mitigatehazardsinaccordancewith
OSHAguidelines.
Thetripodismostefficientwhenusedatitsmaximumworkingextensionheight.
Ensuretheinstallationsurfaceissolid,freeofloosesand,gravel,anythingthatmightcompromisefooting.Formoreinformationonconfinedspace
practicesandprocedures,seeAppendixCofthismanual.
4.2FirstTimePreUseAssembly:Thisstepinstallsthedevicebrackets.Oncethebracketsareinstalled,removalisunneces
sary.Removeall
componentsandpiecesfromthepackingmaterials.Placethetripodonaworkbenchoronaflatsurface.
Standthetripodup,spreadthelegsoutuntilallthreeheadlockingdetentballsinthelegsclickintotheholesintheheadassembly.Referbackto
Figure1A.Notethattheleglengthadjustmentpinswillbeinthetransit/storageholes,approximately14"belowtheheadassembly.Theseholes
areforstoringthepinsduringtransitandstorage.Removethepinfromoneleg.Extendthatlegtothefirstadjustmentholeandinsertthepin.
Repeatontheothertwolegs.
Thetripodisatapproximatelyhalfitsworkingheight,tofacilitatebracketinstallation.
4.2.1InstallTheDeviceBrackets:Thetripodisdesignedtouseuptothreedevicebrackets.Bracketpartnumber7291Bisthecompatiblebracket.
Noteontheheadassemblythetwopulleysatthetopoftwolegs.Thebracketsinstallononeorbothlegs.Toinstallathirdbracket,anadditional
pulleyisrequired.Findthebracketcomponents.Fitthecomponentsforonebrackettoonelegatapproximatelythebottomedgeoftheblackand
yellowsafetytape.SeeFigure3.Ensurethestatio
narydevicelockingbarisatthebottom.Insertthebolts,placealockwasheroneachone,thread
thenutsonandtightensecure ly.Ensurethebracketisinstalledontheoutsideoftheleg(s).
Fittheremainingbracket(s)tolineuptoaheadpulle
yandtightenthenuts.Devicebracketinstallationiscomplete.
Removethelegsecuringdetentpinsfromthelegs,retractthelegsallthewayandputthepinsintothestoragelocation.Disengagethedetent
ballsintheheadassemblyandputthelegstogether.Placethetripodintheprovidedcarryingbag
.
4.3TripodSetup:Removethetripodfromthecarryingbag.Beforeeachuse,inspectthetripodandensureitisinproperworkingorder,in
accordancewiththeinspectionproceduresinSection7ofthismanual.
Standthetripodup, nearorovertheconfinedspaceentrypoint.Usecaution.Avoidstepping,falling,ordroppingtoolsorpartsintotheconfinedspace.
Spreadthelegsoutuntilallthreeheadlockingdetentballsintheheadassemblyclickintotheholesinthelegs.
Removeonelegsecuringdetentpinfromitsstoragelocation,extendthatlegtoitsfirstadjustme
ntholeandinsertthelegsecuringdetentpin.
Repeatwiththeremaininglegs.Thetripodisatapproximatelyhalfitsworkingheight,tofacilitatedeviceinstallation,asshowninFigure4.
NOTE:Legheightmaybeadjustedtoaccommodateunevensurfacesorraisededges.Beforeattachingtheentranttothelegendconnector,ensure
thetripodisstraightupright,andtheheadassemblyislevel,asshowninFigure8.
4.3.1InstalltheWinch/Devices:Thisstepinstallsthedevice(s)onthetripod.Thewinchanddeviceshouldhaveonehalfofthematingbracket
alreadyinstalled.
Placethewinch/devicebracketontothelegbracket.Ensurethematingslotsonthewinch/device bracketengagethelegbracketrodasshownin
Figure5Aand5B.Alignthetopholes,andinserttheintegraldevicesecuringdetentpin.
Removeenoughcablefromthedevice(s)todropthelegendconnectordownthroughthetripodheadassemblytotheworkingsurface.Slipthe
cableunderthecableretainerasshowninFigure6.
4.4UseoftheTripod:Ensurethetripodiscenteredovertheconfinedspaceopening,andthattheattendantandentrant,oranypersonnel
involvedinarescue,wouldnotinadver
tentlystepintotheconfinedspaceopeningduringnormaloperationorinarescuesituation.
Ensurethefeetaredeployedtotheproperapplicationforthesurface,i.e.,ontherubberpadsforfirmsurfaces.Flipthefeetupandouttodeploy
theteethforloose,shifting,orsoftsurfaces.
Withthedevicesinstalled,extendthelegstoraisethetripodheight.Removethelegsecuringdetentpinononelegextendthatlegoutuntiltheleg
lockingdetentballclicksintoplace,asshowninFigure4.Insertlegsecuringdetentpininthe leg.Repeatwiththetworemaininglegs.
Passthelegsecuringchainthroughtheeyeboltsatthebottomofthelegs,takeupasmuchslackaspossible,andfastenwiththethreadedlinkto
preventthelegsfromspreadingduetoafallarrestevent.SeeFigure4.
WARNING
Ensurethelegsecuringdetentpinsareinsertedthroughtheappropriateholesinthetripodslegs,andthedetentballpinsareproperlyinserted.
Thedeviceshouldbeatacomfortableheightforuse.Adjustdevicebracketifnecessary.Thelegendconnectorforthedeviceshouldbewithin
reach.
4.5InstallAdditi
onalFallProtectionDevices:TheeyeboltsundertheheadassemblyareforadditionaldevicessuchasSRDs,aFallArrestor
ConnectingSubsystem(FACSS),oraroperescuesystem.SeeFigure7.Donotusewinchor3WaySRLRdevicecablesinasecondarypulley
installe
dineyebolts.Winchanddevicecablesmustbeinstalledinthepulleysontheheadassembly.Thetripodisnormallyequippedwithtwo
pulleysintheheadassembly,withanoptionforathird.Ensurethebracketsareinstalledonthe outsideoftheleg(s).
4.6ConnecttotheDevice:Graspthedevicelegendconnector,keepthelinetaut,andwindenoughcablefromthedevicetoconnecttothedorsal
Dringoftheentrant'sfullbodyharness.
Ensureworkinglinesarefreeofentanglementandcontactwithsharpedges.Avoidswingfall.Useofthetripodforsuspensionorpersonnelriding
requiresabackupfallprotectionsystem
.Thetripoddiscussedinthismanualisequippedwithprovisionsforabackupfallprotectionsystem.
FallprotectionapplicationsrequiretheusertomeetOSHArequirements.Ensure theworkingsurfacewillsupportfallprotectionloads.SeeSection
3.Fallprotectionsystemsmu
stincludeaFBHasthebodywearcomponent.AtypicalPFASwoul dincludeaFBH,aconnectingsubsystemor
component(SRLorlifelineandaropegrab)andapprovedconnectorstoconnectthesystemtogether.Positiontheentrantforentranceintothe
