Configuration Menu/Label Printer Preferences, Continued
Below is a typical Windows
®
Properties dialog box. They commonly contain
numerous option tabs. This one is from the DataMax
™
DMX I-4208 Printer.
These two printer Properties dialog windows, viewed together, show that
bidirectional communication with the printer is enabled, and that documents are sent
to the spooler, not directly to the printer. There are only two useable combinations of
these two separate settings:
1. Enable bidirectional support in the Ports tab is checked, and Spool
print documents…
in the Advanced tab is also checked.
─ This is the most typical office setup.
Or…
2. Enable bidirectional support in the Ports tab is unchecked, and the
Print directly to printer option is checked.
─ The advantage to this setting is the printer throughput speed is increased with
LabelBank, so more labels can process per hour.
─ The disadvantage is that there is no indication to the operator when the labels
run out, so the station operator must monitor the printer status manually.
─ NO error messages display to the operator in the event of a printer failure.
