User Guide Owner's manual

Introduction
This user guide contains information about the Extron MLA VC10 Plus volume control
module with instructions for experienced installers on how to install, configure, and
operate the equipment.
Unless otherwise specied, references in this guide to the “MLA” relate to the features or
operation of the MLA VC10 Plus.
References to the “control processor” or “controller” refer to the Extron or third-party
controller that provides RS-232 commands to the MLA VC10 Plus.
References to “amplier” relate to any amplier and mixer under the control of the MLA.
MLA VC10 Plus Description
The MLA VC10 Plus is a MediaLink
®
accessory volume control module. It converts RS-232
commands from a control system into voltage or impedance changes to control audio
ampliers with volume and mute control ports. It can be used with Extron or third-party
controllers and audio amplifiers that have remote volume control capability.
The MLA VC10 Plus is compatible with the following control devices:
z Extron MediaLink controllers
z Extron IP Link
®
control processors
z Third party control systems capable of RS-232 serial control
The MLA VC10 Plus is compatible with Extron ampliers, including:
z MPA 152 and MPA 401
z XPA 1002 and XPA 2001
z MP 101
MLA VC10 Plus Features
Volume and mute control The MLA VC10 provides volume and mute control for the
Extron MPA or XPA half-rack series ampliers and many third-party ampliers.
High resolution volume control range Provides smooth volume changes without
audible level jumps.
Compatible with multiple control systems — The volume control module uses an
RS-232 protocol that is compatible with Extron and third-party serial-capable controllers.
Adjustable maximum limit on variable voltage or resistance control — The
amplier volume level is adjusted using voltage (0 - 10 VDC) or resistance (0 - 10 kilohm
potentiometer) control. The maximum control voltage or resistance range can be reduced
to avoid damage to third party amplifiers that need a lower control range or to limit the
maximum audio output of the amplifier.
Linear or logarithmic taper modes — These modes are available for both voltage and
resistance control and provide a choice between consistent linear or natural logarithmic
volume changes.
