Introduction, cont’d Introduction About the CD 900 The Extron CD 900 is a 2-input, switching, high-resolution quad-standard video decoder, with a three-line adaptive comb filter. It converts NTSC, PAL, or SECAM standard interlaced Svideo or composite video signal to a non-interlaced output in one of four formats: filtering yields an RGB or component video signal that is free of noise, and produces a clean, clear picture.
Introduction, cont’d Serration pulse removal — LCD displays, DLP projectors, and plasma displays don’t need pulses to synchronize retracing. A rear panel DIP switch causes the serration pulses to be stripped from the vertical blanking portion of a signal. Rack mount option — The CD 900 is 1U high and half-rack wide. It can be installed on a standard rack shelf by using an Extron 1U Shelf Rack, part # 60-190-01.
Installation, cont’d Installation Installation Overview b. To install and set up the CD 900 quad-standard decoder for operation, follow these steps: 1 Turn off all of the equipment. Ensure that the video sources (DVD players, laserdisc players, VCRs, satellite receivers, or other devices) and the output display are all turned off and disconnected from the power source. 2 Mount the switcher. See “Mounting the CD 900” in this chapter. 3 Attach the cables. See “Rear Panel Cabling” in this chapter.
Installation, cont’d that the H/HV/SOG is in the HV position (see “Setting Up the CD 900/Rear Panel Controls” in chapter 3). H Video Loopback Connections The CD 900 can be used with a system switcher in video loopback (VLB) mode. Details of this operation are included in Extron’s System 8/10 Plus switcher manual, part #68-078-01.

Setup and cont’d Setup andOperation, Operation Setting Up the CD 900/Rear Panel Controls plasma displays must have the serration pulses removed from the sync signal in order to display properly. Figure 8 shows the switches on the rear panel of the CD 900. Refer to figure 8 and the following descriptions of the rear panel switches to set up the CD 900. Flagging or bending at the top of the video image is a sign that the serration pulses should be removed.

Setup and Operation, cont’d To output component video 1. Set the RGB/component DIP switch to the off/left position. 2. Set the H/HV/SOG switch to the SOG position. Troubleshooting If the image does not appear 1. Ensure that all devices are plugged in and powered on. The CD 900 is receiving power if the front panel power LED is lit. 2. Ensure an active input is selected on the CD 900. 3. Ensure the RGB/Component DIP switch and the H/HV/SOG switch are in the correct positions for the video output.
RS-232/Remote Control, cont’d The CD 900 decoder’s rear panel RS-232/Remote connector (figure 10) can be connected to the serial port output of a host device, such as a computer or control system, or to a remote contact closure device. Remote communications with the CD 900 are via Extron’s Simple Instruction Set, Extron’s Windows-based control program, or pin-programmed in the case of a contact closure device.
