Remote Configuration and Control This section describes the serial, Ethernet, and USB connections through which the Extron Simple Instruction Set (SIS) commands can be issued, and lists the commands that are available for configuring and controlling the AVT 200HD.
IP Address To access the AVT 200HD via the Ethernet port, obtain the IP address of the tuner from your network administrator. If the IP address has been changed to an address comprised of words and characters, you can determine the actual numeric IP address using the ping (ICMP) utility (see “IP Addressing” in the “Reference Information” section for more information). If the IP address has not been changed, the factory-specified default is 192.168.254.254.
Using SIS Commands SIS commands consist of one or more characters per command field. They do not require any special characters to begin or end the command character sequence. Each tuner response to an SIS command ends with a carriage return and a line feed (CR/LF = ]), which signals the end of the response character string. A string is one or more characters. Tuner-initiated Messages When a local event such as a front panel operation occurs, the tuner responds by sending a message to the host.
Tuner Error Responses If the AVT is unable to perform an SIS command that it receives because the command is invalid or contains invalid parameters, the tuner returns an error response to the host.
Special Characters The following characters are invalid preset names, the tuner name, passwords, or locally created file names: ~ @ = ` [ ] { } < > ’ ‘ “ ” ; (semicolon) : (colon) | / \ ? and space. Part Numbers and Accessories Included Parts The following parts are provided with your AVT 200HD.
Mounting the Tuner UL Guidelines for Rack Mounting The following Underwriters Laboratories (UL) guidelines pertain to the installation of the AVT into a rack: • Elevated operating ambient temperature — If the equipment is installed in a closed or multi-unit rack assembly, the operating ambient temperature of the rack environment may be greater than room ambient.
IP Addressing What is an IP Address? An IP address is a 32-bit binary number that is used to identify each device on an Ethernet network. This number is usually represented by four decimal numbers (each in the range or 0 to 255) separated by dots, such as 198.123.34.240. This is called “dotted decimal notation.” An IP address is divided into two parts: • Network identifier • Host identifier Each address on a given network must have the same network identifier value but have a unique host identifier.
The following is an example of an invalid Class C addressing scheme: Device IP Address AVT 200HD Control Software Computer 208.132.180.41 AVT 200HD tuner 192.157.180.42 NOTE: The above addresses are invalid because the network identifier for each address is not the same even though each IP address is unique. You can perform a test from your computer to check that a device at a particular address is responding correctly or to determine its address (see “Pinging for the IP Address”).
The line Pinging ... reports the actual numeric IP address, regardless of whether you entered the actual numeric IP address or an alias name. Telnet tips It is not the intention of this guide to detail all of the operations and functionality of Telnet; however, some basic level of understanding is necessary for operating the AVT 200HD via Telnet. Connecting to the AVT (Open command) You connect to the AVT Plus tuner using the Open command. After your computer is connected to the tuner, you can enter the SIS commands the same as you would if you were using the RS-232 link. Connect to the AVT as follows: 1.
Setting carriage return-line feed Unless commanded otherwise, Telnet transmits a line feed character only (no carriage return) to the connected tuner when you press the key. This is the correct setting for SIS communication with the tuner. The Telnet set crlf command forces Telnet to transmit carriage return and line feed characters when is pressed; however, if crlf is set, the SIS link with the tuner does not function properly.
Subnet masks and octets The subnet mask (figure 66) is used to determine whether the local and remote devices are on the same subnet or different subnets. The subnet mask consists of four numeric octets separated by dots. Each octet can be numbered from 000 through 255. Leading zeros, up to three digits total per octet, are optional. Each octet typically contains either 255 or 0.
