16 Call Admission Controls, TSPEC, and QoS
Summit WM WLAN supports TSPEC as related to the 802.11e standard, with the following capabilities:
● Admission Control (AC) for the voice and video traffic class is configurable per WM-AD.
● Medium time calculation and management is configured via the Global Settings page.
■ Recalculation of the available medium time occurs once per second.
■ Acceptance is based on the availability thresholds for new and roaming clients, which is
configured on the Wireless QoS tab.
■ Configure the deletion of TPSEC due to medium violations by enabling the Send DELTS to
Client option on the QoS Policy tab.
● Accept non-TSPEC clients on the access control enabled WM-AD:
■ Optionally downgrade downlink packets to non-access controlled priority, if necessary.
■ If enabled, force a deauthentication of the client sending uplink packets using a controlled class
(i.e. voice or video).
● QBSS Load IE announcement in the Beacon and Probe Response.
● Support for both 802.11e IE and WMM IE in the management frames
● The 802.11 management frame will include the 802.11e IEs when generated by the AP. The AP
processes the 802.11 management frame, which contains the 802.11e IE, when it is received. The
negotiation between the AP and client is as follows:
■ Beacon is generated by the AP.
■ Probe is received by the AP.
■ Probe response is generated by the AP.
■ Association/reassociation request is generated by the client.
■ Association/reassociation response is generated by the AP.
● Ability to communicate with both 802.11e and WMM-enabled clients.
● TSPEC negotiation with the client is based on ADDTS-Request, ADDTS-Resp, and DELTS including
support for uplink, downlink, and bi-directional traffic.
● TSPEC timeout and TSPEC Suspension (802.11e specific) is not supported.
● TSPEC enforcement using policer is configured using the Advanced Wireless QoS options on the
QoS Policy tab:
■ Uplink Policer Action:
■ Do Nothing (default)
■ Send DELTS to client
■ Downlink Policer Action:
■ Do Nothing (default)
■ Downgrade
■ Drop
● The Admission Control Statistics by Altitude AP report for each client TSPEC includes:
■ Access category (AC)
