Configuring the Wireless AP
Summit WM20 User Guide, Software Release 4.260
Configuring the Wireless APs for the First Time
Before the Wireless AP is configured for the first time, you must first confirm that the following has
already occurred:
● The Summit WM Controller has been set up. For more information, see Chapter 2, “Configuring the
Summit WM Controller.”
● The Summit WM Controller, Access Points and Software has been configured. For more information,
see Chapter 2, “Configuring the Summit WM Controller.”
● The Wireless APs have been installed. For more information, see the Summit WM20 Controller
Installation Guide.
Once the above processes are complete, you can then continue with the Wireless AP initial
configuration. The Wireless AP initial configuration involves two steps:
● Step One – Define parameters for the discovery process. For more information, see “Defining
Properties for the Discovery Process”.
● Step Two – Connect the Wireless AP to a power source to initiate the discovery and registration
process. For more information, see “Connecting the Wireless AP to a Power Source and Initiating the
Discovery and Registration Process” on page 63.
Adding a Wireless AP Manually Option
An alternative to the automatic discovery and registration process of the Wireless AP is to manually
add and register a Wireless AP to the Summit WM Controller. For more information, see “Adding and
Registering a Wireless AP Manually” on page 63.
Defining Properties for the Discovery Process
Before a Wireless AP is configured, you must define properties for the discovery process. The discovery
process is the process by which the Wireless APs determine the IP address of the Summit WM
Controller.
The properties that need to be defined are:
● Security mode
● Discovery timers
Security Mode
Security mode is a Summit WM Controller property. It defines how the controller behaves when
registering new, unknown devices. During the registration process, the Summit WM Controller’s
approval of the Wireless AP’s serial number depends on the security mode that has been set:
● Allow all Altitude APs to connect
