Virtual Router
Redundancy
Protocol (VRRP)
A protocol used in static routing configurations, typically at the edge of the
network. This protocol operates on multiple routers on an IP subnet and
elects a primary gateway router. When the primary router fails, a backup
router is quickly available to take its place.
Voice over IP (VOIP)
The technology that delivers voice information in digital form in discrete
packets using the Internet Protocol (IP) rather than the traditional circuit-
committed protocols of the public switched telephone network (PSTN).
wavelength division
multiplexing (WDM)
Simultaneously transmits many colors (wavelengths) of laser light down the
same optical fiber to increase the amount of transferred information.
wiring closet A central termination area for telephone or network cabling or both.
