NOTE
When the SLX 9850 Management Module (MM) is running SLXOS 17r.2.01 software version or higher [64bit OS] release,
and if a Line Card (LC) which has SLXOS 17r.1.01 or lower version [32bit OS] release is installed, the LC will go into a faulty
state with an "Incompatible LC" error message on the console. To recover the LC, log onto the device and re-install the LC
rmware using the command shown below. Please contact Extreme Support for assistance with this process if needed.
SLX# start-shell
install.lc <slot>
NOTE
Use slot value 1-4 for F4 and 1-8 for F8. Only one slot can be installed at a time. This utility cannot be run from the
console.
Complete this procedure to insert a new interface module. Refer to the illustration provided with the procedure.
1. Unpack the new interface module and remove it from the anti-static bag.
NOTE
During installation of multiple line cards in chassis slots, it is recommended to install the blades from the bottom to the
top. Using this procedure, the last blade to be installed would be LC 1.
NOTE
When handling or lifting the module, place your hands on the areas that are noted in writing on the outer edges of the
top cover. Do not place your ngers into the side of the module.
2. Inspect the interface module for damage.
3. Remove the protective covers from the backplane connectors.
4. Unscrew the captive screw on the ejectors (the levers on the side of the module) and rotate the ejectors outward.
5. Orient the interface module so that the ports are at the front of the device.
NOTE
When handling or lifting the module, place your hands on the areas that are noted in writing on the outer edges of the
top cover. Do not place your ngers into the side of the module.
6. Align the at side of the interface module inside the top and bottom rail guides in the slot.
