Sample Interval (seconds): The interval, in seconds, over which the data is sampled
and compared to the rising and falling thresholds.
•StartupAlarm:The condition that should be met to cause the initial occurrence ofthis
event. Select from the following:
Rising: an event will be generated the first time the sample value becomes greater
than or equalto the Rising Threshold value. No events will be generated related to
the Falling threshold until after this has occurred.
—Falling:aneventwill begenerated thefirst time thesamplevalue becomes lessthan
or equal to the Falling Threshold value. No events will be generated related to the
Rising threshold until after this has occurred.
RisingOrFalling:aneventwillbe generatedthe firsttimethe sample valuebecomes

Falling Threshold value.
It isimportant to understand that, except for the initialoccurrence of the alarm, anRMON
alarmeventwillbegeneratedonlythewhenthesamplevalueofthevariablecrossesone
of the thresholds for the first time after having crossed the other threshold.
The following diagram, shown in Figure 5-13, shows how alarms are generated for an
RMON rule using Delta values, where the startup alarm condition is set to “Rising” or
“RisingOrFalling.”
