DNS Settings for Altitude AP Discovery
There is an assumption that for the use of this mechanism that there are DNS services configured and
available.
1 Start Programs Administrative Tools DNS
2 <Right mouse click> Domain that will be used for discovery, select New Host (W2K Server) New
Host (A) (W2003 server)
3 First field enter Controller which is the default name for the Summit WM series switch, then enter
the IP address of the HWC ESA port that will host the Altitude AP connections.
4 Select Create Pointer <Finish>. This will create a pointer and append the switch reference
“Controller” to the existing domain string to create the host record and in turn the “Forward
Lookup” for the Altitude APs to discover the Summit WM series switch.
Static Altitude AP Addressing
The entry of static values is reliant on the fact that the Altitude AP has already discovered its DA(s) and
is therefore registered or pending registration with the Summit WM series switch. Once this has taken
place Static IP values can be configured for each Altitude AP in the Static Configuration tab of the
Wireless APs option of the Summit WM series switch UI. If there are no DHCP SLP option enabled
services then the IP(s) of the Summit WM series switch(es) should be included in the Wireless
Controller Search List section of the “Static Configuration” tab of the “Wireless APs” option of the
Summit WM series switch UI whether you are opting for Static or DHCP Altitude AP address
assignment.
