Installation and Setup
This chapter describes the following:
• How to decide where to install the Alpine 3800 series switch
• How to install the chassis in a rack
• How to install the power supply
• How to install modules in the chassis
• How to connect equipment to the console port
• How to check the installation using the Power On Self-Test (POST)

All service to Alpine 3800 series switch modules, fan tray, and power supplies should
be performed by trained service personnel only.
Caution: Before installing or removing any components of the switch, or before
carrying out any maintenance procedures, you must read the safety information
provided in Appendix A of this guide.
