See Note 1
Mount as close as possible
to the evaporator coil, or inside
cabinet for best operation.
Note 1: The curved surface of the sensor must be attached directly and securely to the
outside surface of the pipe. Mount the CPLS at the top or sides of the pipe, NOT at the
bottom. DO NOT exceed the recommended pipe size. The curvature of the CPLS is
designed to match a maximum 7/8” OD pipe. Larger diameter pipe will not allow good
contact with the CPLS surface. For best results, mount the CPLS inside the evaporator
cabinet, on the evaporator manifold or suction line before it exits the cabinet.
Note 2: Insulate the CPLS and any exposed pipe with foam or cork insulating tape.
Ambient temperatures will affect the operation of the CPLS if not properly insulated.

Contact rating: 120VAC @ 15 Amp Max.
Break @ 37 F Reset @ 47 F
The Coil Protection Lockout Switch, MODEL CPLS, is a temperature sensing control, used
to act as a safety against Evaporator Coil freeze up. It is designed to mount on the surface
of a 3/4" or 7/8” suction line. Electrically, it is wired in series with the "Y" lead from the
thermostat or zone control panel, to the compressor contactor coil or relay. The switch
breaks (opens) shutting off the compressor when the temperature of the pipe drops below
37 F. The switch will reset (close), restarting the compressor when the temperature of the
pipe rises above 47 F. EWC strongly recommends installing a compressor time delay
relay when a CPLS control is used.
