It should be seen as a reference guide that provides a detailed description on the various modules of IPDirector, as well as procedural information on how to work with the IPDirector system. The user manual for IPDirector Version 5.9 is divided into 9 parts. This is part 2 of the manual.

Assigning keywords to logs, clips, playlists or timelines make it possible to search on the video material stored on the XNet network and easily find it back.

IP Logger 1.1 INTRODUCTION IP Logger is used to create a log which relates events with: • time codes • camera angles • clip numbers • metadata in a fast and efficient way. IP Logger does not interfere with, but compliments a live production, while also producing invaluable data for use of the material during or after the event.

It contains five main areas highglighted in the screenshot below: T OOLBAR (1) This area, highlighted in light blue on the above outline, provides functions for performing operations on log sheets and buttons mainly for viewing options.

You can also click the Properties button on the toolbar. Print Opens the Print Log Sheet window and allows printing the log sheet. De-active log sheet Once de-activated, a log sheet could not be modified and could not be associated to clips. This permits to reduce the network load and database activity.

They can be changed to show a different image. If you want to change the thum bnail, right-click the log entry, click Grab Thumbnail on Recorder and select a recorder. R EFRESH B UTTON Selecting this command button performs a refresh on the log entry list.

Once the Protect All command has been executed, green bars mark the protected media. P ROPERTIES The properties that were entered when the log sheet was created can be edited later. Clicking the Properties button on the toolbar opens the window Update a Log Sheet Wizard.

If needed, all thumbnails can be re-generated for a log sheet by pressing the Recreate All Thumbnails button. 1.2.4 LOGGING BUTTONS Logging buttons are used to create log entries. Refer to section 1.4 ‘Creating Log Sheet Entries’ on page 22.

The view can be expanded thanks to a small arrow at the beginning of each line. The following elements can be displayed on separate lines: • Log entries • Protect Media Clips. See section 1.

If you simply wish to change the position of a column in the log sheet, you can drag the column header to a different location and drop it there.

It gives access to the actions that can be performed on logs. Field Description Edit Opens the Edit a Log window that allows you to modify the log entry characteristics.

To do this, complete the 4 steps of the Create a New Log Sheet wizard and define: 1. log sheet characteristics 2. log sheet keywords 3. relevant recorders 4. user fields To start the New Log Sheet wizard, click File > New Log Sheet from the main toolbar.

Issue 5.9.B IPDirector Version 5.9 – User Manual – Part 2 – Logging EVS Broadcast Equipment – January 2011 The fields in the Log Sheet Characteristics window are explained in the following table: G ENERAL L OG S HEET I NFORMATION Field Description Name Name of the log sheet. This is a mandatory field. Parent Name of the folder in which the log sheet is to be filed in the tree structure of the Database Explorer.
IPDirector Version 5.9 – User Manual – Part 2: Logging EVS Broadcast Equipment – January 2011 1.3.2 Issue 5.9.B STEP 2: DEFINING THE LOG SHEET KEYWORDS The Log Sheet Keywords window opens when you click the button beside the Step 2 indication. A list of all keywords available in the IPDirector database is displayed in the Keyword List box. By associating any of these with the log sheet, each event logged will have these as an additional set of keywords.

Type the beginning of the keyword searched for and the first keyword matching the search criteria will be highlighted. Keyword Selection Displays the keywords that have been associated with the log sheet and that are automatically assigned to all log entries of the log sheet.
IPDirector Version 5.9 – User Manual – Part 2: Logging EVS Broadcast Equipment – January 2011 1.3.3 Issue 5.9.B STEP 3: DEFINING THE RELEVANT RECORDERS Each record channel on any EVS video server within the XNet can be defined as a relevant recorder for the logger. Simply select the relevant sources from the recorders tree. D EFINING A P REVIEW R ECORDER The preview recorder definition is used to provide the timecode displayed in the LIVE area of the log sheet.
Issue 5.9.B IPDirector Version 5.9 – User Manual – Part 2 – Logging EVS Broadcast Equipment – January 2011 A SSOCIATING THE L OG AND R ECORDER T IME C ODE T ABLES When selecting a relevant recorder, the system will automatically consider the primary table of the log sheet and the recorder as the relevant tables to calculate the clip/log association. It is however possible to change this association if necessary. To change the association, proceed as follows: 1.

If no logging profile has been defined in step 1 or if no user field section has been defined in the log sheet profile, this button is disabled.
Issue 5.9.B 1.3.5 IPDirector Version 5.9 – User Manual – Part 2 – Logging EVS Broadcast Equipment – January 2011 LOG SHEET READY FOR USE When the wizard is completed, the name of the log sheet will be shown in the window title bar and a running timecode will appear in the LIVE area. Note If there is no time code in the LIVE area, this means that the preview recorder is located on a server with no RS-422 connection to the IPDirector network. 1.

If a relevant recorder has been defined in Step 2 of the wizard, a running timecode appears in the LIVE area. H OW TO L OG LIVE A CTION IN AN E VENT To create a new log entry in a loaded log sheet, proceed as follows: 1.

It can also contain an Automatic keywords tab if a profile for Automatic Keywords is associated to the log sheet profile.
IPDirector Version 5.9 – User Manual – Part 2: Logging EVS Broadcast Equipment – January 2011 Issue 5.9.B Note Two users can work on the same log sheet at the same time with different states of the Remember Color Selection checkbox and different colors associated to the checkbox. 1.4.2 LIVE LOGGING WITH PC TIMECODE When the IP Logger is not linked to an EVS video server, it has no timecode information and you will not be able to make log entries. The NEW button in the LIVE area is disabled.
Issue 5.9.B 1.4.3 IPDirector Version 5.9 – User Manual – Part 2 – Logging EVS Broadcast Equipment – January 2011 COMFORTABLE LOGGING With IP Logger, you have the possibility to log actions on media which has been recorded previously and then rewind in the record train. To do so, you first need to assign a player channel to the IP Logger window. As soon as the player channel is associated, a running timecode appears in the Player area, below the New button.
IPDirector Version 5.9 – User Manual – Part 2: Logging EVS Broadcast Equipment – January 2011 Issue 5.9.B From the Associated Channel Zone of the IP Logger Alternatively, you can right-click the Associated Channel zone at the bottom of the IP Logger window and select the desired channel from this menu: If the workstation has a valid license for the OCX Software Player, and the user has it visible currently, it will also be an option to select as a defined IP Logger channel.

See section 1.5 ‘Using Keywords with Logs’ on page 28. 5. If required, select a rating level, from none to three stars. 6. For an easy tracking of the logs, you can select a color for the log by clicking one of the color buttons. If you want to create a series of logs with the same background color, select the Remember Color Selection checkbox. 7.

A SSIGNMENT The parent keywords are defined when you create the log sheet, in step 2 of the Log Sheet wizard (the Log Sheet Keyword Definition window). The parent keywords are automatically assigned to all log entries of a log sheet.
Issue 5.9.B 1.5.2 IPDirector Version 5.9 – User Manual – Part 2 – Logging EVS Broadcast Equipment – January 2011 AUTOMATIC KEYWORDS D EFINITION Automatic keywords can be attributed to log entries of a log sheet for predefined fields, e.g. ‘period’. Predefined and customizable list of values are available for each field, e.g. ‘first half’ or ‘second half’ for the ‘period’ field.

Before creating a new log entry on which you want the automatic keywords to be modified, select the Automatic Keywords tab: 2.

They are selected with a mouse or with a keyboard shortcut from a keyword grid or dictionary. The normal keywords in the Keyword Grid or Keyword Dictionary are added in the Keywords column within the log sheet.

They allow a fast selection of the keyword.

To protect the media, the system creates a clip which can thereafter be loaded on a player The users can define a prefix to be applied to their protect media in Tools > Settings > IPLogger > Protect Media Prefix.

You access the View and Edit options when right-clicking on a log entry and selecting one of the View/Edit options displayed in the contextual menu. 1.7.1 HOW TO EDIT LOG ENTRIES IN THE LOG SHEET To edit log entries in the log sheet, proceed as follows: 1.

Issue 5.9.B In the opened log sheet, right-click the log entry for which the timecode has to be edited. The Log contextual menu opens. 2. Select the Edit or Edit and View command. The Edit command displays the Edit a Log window. The Edit and View command also loads the log on the player channel at the relevant timecode position. 3.

Associate a player channel or the Software Player to the IPLogger main window and the same player to a Control Panel. 2.
IPDirector Version 5.9 – User Manual – Part 2: Logging EVS Broadcast Equipment – January 2011 1.8 Issue 5.9.B ENTERING A T/C OFFSET Imagine the logs and the recordings are made in different locations or on two different setups with a T/C offset between the two. For example, the images are recorded live at the event while the logger works in a studio, with IP Logger on his laptop. The log entries carry the PC time code of the laptop and the recordings have the actual live time code.

Entering the T/C Offset should only be done when the log sheet is completely finished. H OW TO S YNCHRONIZE A L OG S HEET FROM A L OADED I MAGE The user can apply an offset on all the logs to synchronize the log sheet and the clips. To do so, proceed as follows: 1.

Whenever a clip is created, for example, the database is searched and every log sheet that contains a timecode that is in the clip will be updated. De-activating log sheets when they are completed will improve the performance of the system.

Logging profiles must also be exported with the log sheets when exporting to ensure the correct formatting is maintained when a log sheet is re-imported later. 1.10.4 EXPORTING A CURRENT LOGGING PROFILE The logging profiles can be created from within IPDirector.

Open the log sheet you want to publish. 2. Select Publish from the File contextual menu. The Publish log sheet window opens. 3. Select the user group(s) to which you want to publish the log sheet in the Available Groups area. Keep CTRL pressed to select multiple groups. 4.

Load the log sheet via the File > Open Log Sheet menu 2. Open the Print Log Sheet window via the File > Print menu 3. Set the print options. For more information on the Print options, refer to the section ‘Print Log Sheet Window’ below. 4 Press the Print button.

Cleared Print column header on every page When this check box is selected, the column header is printed on every page. Selected Print grid When this check box is selected, the grid around the cells is displayed.

Shown in the screenshots below are all item s that are available in the IP Logger with shortcuts, the default values are shown. These can be modified and saved by the system user if desired.

Keyword Management 2.1 INTRODUCTION Keywords are an essential element to the IPDirector system, bridging the gap between the EVS video servers and a conventional database by allowing the user to search for material using keywords which relate to the media rather than searching by storage locations. Keywords allow you to perform searches in logs or clip elements in a unified manner.

Note The keyword list is kept in the IPDirector database which means that you work with shared data. All actions undertaken on keywords will be reverberated on each IPDirector of the same XNet network. 2.3.

The keyword is deleted. 2.3.10 RULES FOR KEYWORD FILE IMPORT Before importing the keyword file, check the file structure and the settings to ensure that the following conditions are met: • Each keyword in the keyw ord file must be on its own line within the file.

In the Keyword List, select Export from the File menu The Keyword Export window opens. 2.

These keyword grids will first be used in the logging and creation of the metadata, to be associated with log sheets and individual clip elements. Subsequently they can be used to search the metadata to retrieve required media.

Open the Keyword Grid tool. 2. Select New from the File menu. The New Keyword Grid window opens: 3. Type a name for the keyw ord grid in the Name field, and a description in the Description field, if required. 4.

Select the Edit command in the menu bar of the keyword grid. 3. In the keyword list, select the keyw ords to be added to the keyword grid. Click CTRL (+SHIFT) for a multiple selection. 4. Drag the selected fields in the first cell of the keyword grid where you want to copy the keywords.

H OW TO E DIT P AGES OF A K EYWORD G RID 1. Open the keyword grid you want to edit. 2. Select the Edit command in the menu bar. 3. Perform the desired action, referring to section 2.4.4 about ‘Keyword Grid Editing Toolbar’, i.e. insert page, append page, rename page, delete page, clear page.

To modify the foreground and/or the background color of a cell, proceed as follows: 1. Open the keyword grid you want to edit. 2. Select the Edit command in the menu bar. 3.

The Dictionary tool allows creating, modifying or deleting dictionaries in the IPDirector database. Note The dictionaries are kept in the IPDirector database which means that you work on shared data. All updates performed on dictionaries will be reverberated on each IPDirector. 2.5.

When the media is being created or edited and the corresponding window (create or edit) is opened, proceed as follows: 1.

Click again in the keyword grid (the keyword grid window must be active instead of the other window). 4.
