Remove existing carpet and all nails,
glue, and debris. All surfaces should
be smooth.
Using a saw, cut the nosing from the
bottom tread so it is ush with the riser.
Be careful not to damage stringers
or walls.
Measure width and height of existing
bottom riser. Be sure to include the
existing tread thickness in height
measurement.
Cut a new riser (sold separately) to
dimensions from Step 3. Install over
existing riser using construction
adhesive and 2" 18-gauge pin nails.
Measure depth (front to back including
replacement riser thickness) and width
(left to right) of existing bottom stair
tread. Use these dimensions to cut
FasTread
Make sure depth starts from inside edge
of nosing (A) and goes towards the back
of the FasTread (B)
Apply 1/4" bead of construction
adhesive according to pattern above,
going around perimeter half-inch from
edge of tread.
Place FasTREAD over existing tread
and position in place. Nail each corner
down with 2"/18 gauge pin nails, or #13
x 2" finish nails. Pre-drill to help prevent
cracking if using a hammer to nail in
place. Repeat process on remaining
treads.
