Bench Backer Board Installation Guide
MOST IMPORTANT RULE: MAKE SURE YOU ARE STARING WITH A CLEAN SUBSTRATE!
Benches can be added before tile installation or after tile installation is complete.
Benches can be retrotted to update a shower.
STEP 1
Determine your bench size that best ts your shower. For the purpose of these instructions, we are going to create a bench that is 36” wide x 20”
tall x 16” deep.
STEP 2
Cut your rst panel down from 48” length to 36” length. Next, cut the same panel from 24” width to 18” width. This 36” x 18” x 2” board will be
the “face” of your bench.
STEP 3
Cut your second panel from 48” length to 36” length. Next, cut the same panel from 24” width to 16” width. This 36” x 16” x 2” board will be the
“seat” of your bench.
STEP 4
Cut your third panel into three identical pieces that will serve as the support legs under the seat. Slope or Taper cut
so that water will not pool on your bench. We want water to run off the bench and into the drain. Your cuts should
be 18-3/8” x 14” Note: A 2% slope is the minimum requirement to make this happen effectively. Next, cut along the
14” width from 18-3/8” down to 18” on all three legs.
STEP 5
Install the leg panels with a suitable adhesive. Install the face of the bench with a suitable adhesive. Install the bench
seat with a suitable adhesive.
