Software State
The system creates a node for each hardware device that is either installed or listed
in the /stand/ioconfig file. A device can be in one of the software states shown
in Table 5-7.
Figure 5-9 shows the possible transitions.

State Description
UNCLAIMED Initialization state, or hardware exists, and no software is
associated with the node.
CLAIMED The driver recognizes the device.
ERROR The device is recognized, but it is in an error state.
NO_HW The device at this hardware path is no longer responding.
SCAN Transitional state which indicates that the device is locked. A
device is temporarily put in the SCAN state when it is being
scanned by the ioscan or ftsmaint utilities.
