Placement
Cordless Phones
If the p e r f o r m a n c e of your w i reless network is impaire d after considering t h e above issues,
and you have a cordless phone:
Try moving cord l e s s ph o n e s aw a y from your Travel Router and your wireless-enabled
computers.
Unplug and remove the b a t t e r y fro m any cord l e s s phone that o p e rates o n the 2.4GHz
band (check m a n u f a c t u rers information). If t h i s fi x e s th e problem, your p h o n e ma y be
interfering with the Wi-Fi Router.
If your phone s u p p o r t s channel selection, ch a n g e the channel on the p h o n e to the
farthest ch a n nel fro m y o u r wireless ne t w o r k . F o r example, change the phone to ch a n n e l
1 and move your Tra v e l Router t o channel 11. See your p h o n e s user m a n u a l for d e t a i l e d
instructions.
If necessary, consider switching to a 900MHz or 5GHz cordless phone.
Choose the Quietest Channel for your
Wireless Network
In lo c a t i o n s w h e re homes or o f f i c e s are cl o s e t o g e t h e r, such as a p a r t m e n t buildings or
office complexes, th e re may be wireless n e t w o r k s nearby that ca n co n f l i c t with your
wireless network.
Use t h e Site Survey capabilities found i n the Wire l e s s Utility of your w i reless adapter to
locate a n y o t h e r wireless n e t w o r k s that are a v a i l a b l e (see your wireless adapters user
manual), and s w i t c h your R o u t e r and c o m p u t e rs to a channel as far a w a y fro m other
networks as possible.
Experiment with more than one of th e av a i l a b l e ch a n n e l s , in order t o fi n d the cleare s t
connection and avoid interfere n c e fro m neighbouring cordless phones or other w i reless
devices.
