PLACEMENT
Just like your mobile phone, a 3G US B M o d e m ’s location will affect its signal stre n g t h to
the 3G Mobile Base St a t i o n (C e l l Tower). T h e data speed a c h i e v a b l e from a 3G USB m o d e m
is relative to this signal strength, which is affected by many environmental factors. Please
keep in mind that the 3G USB Mo d e m will ne e d adequate si g n a l stre n g t h in order to pro v i d e
Internet connectivity whilst choosing a location to place your Travel Router.
Similarly to t h e 3G USB Modem, the wire l e s s connection between the Router and your
Wi-Fi devices will be stro n g e r t h e c l o s e r your connected devices are t o y o u r R o u t e r. Your
wireless connection and pe r f o r m a n c e will degrade as the di s t a n c e between your Ro u t e r
and connected devices increases. T h i s may o r may n o t be d i rectly noticeable, and is greatly
affected by the individual installation environment.
If y o u have concerns about y o u r network’s performance t h a t might b e related to range or
obstruction factors, try moving the computer to a position b e t w e e n t h ree to five meters
from the R o u t e r i n order to s e e i f distance is the pro b l e m . If difficulties pers i s t e v e n at
close range, please contact Etisalat Technical Support.

Router Placement
Place your Router as close as possible to the centre of your wireless network
devices. To achieve t h e best wire l e s s network covera g e for your “wireless clients”
(i.e., computers with built-in or USB W i reless A d a p t e rs, L a p t o p s with b u i l t - i n Wire l e s s ,
Wireless PDA / iPhone, etc):
• In multi-storey h o m e s , p l a c e the R o u t e r o n a f l o o r t h a t is a s c l o s e to t h e c e n t re of the
home as possible. This may mean placing the Router on an upper floor.
• Avoid placing the Router near a cordless telephone that operates at the same radio
frequency (2.4GHz).
Avoid obstacles and interference
Avoid placing your Ro u t e r ne a r devices that may em i t radio “noise,” su c h as micro w a v e
ovens. Dense objects that can inhibit wireless communication include:
• Refrigerators
• Washers and/or dryers
• Metal cabinets
• Large aquariums
• Metallic-based, UV-tinted windows
If your w i reless s i g n a l se e m s we a k in so m e sp o t s , ma k e sure t h a t ob j e c t s su c h as th e s e are
not blocking the signal’s path (between your devices and the Router).
