System Operation Modes
Therearesixdifferentmodesofoperationforthemicrocontroller,eachonewithitsownspecial
characteristicsandwhichcanbechosenaccordingtothespecicperformanceandpowerrequirements
oftheapplication.Therearetwomodesallowingnormaloperationofthemicrocontroller,the
NORMALModeandSLOWMode.Theremainingfourmodes,theSLEEP,IDLE0,IDLE1and
IDLE2ModeareusedwhenthemicrocontrollerCPUisswitchedofftoconservepower.

NORMAL Mode
Asthenamesuggeststhisisoneofthemainoperatingmodeswherethemicrocontrollerhasallof
itsfunctionsoperationalandwherethesystemclockisprovidedbyoneofthehighspeedoscillators.
Thismodeoperatesallowingthemicrocontrollertooperatenormallywithaclocksourcewillcome
fromoneofthehighspeedoscillators,eithertheHXTorHIRCoscillators.Althoughahighspeed
oscillatorisused,runningthemicrocontrolleratadividedclockratioreducestheoperatingcurrent.
SLOW Mode
Thisisalsoamodewherethemicrocontrolleroperatesnormallyalthoughnowwithaslowerspeed
clocksource.Theclocksourceusedwillbefromf

isderivedfromLIRC.
SLEEP Mode
TheSLEEPModeisenteredwhenanHALTinstructionisexecutedandwhentheFHIDENand
FSIDENbitarelow.IntheSLEEPmodetheCPUwillbestopped.Howeverthef

clockstillcan
continuetooperatebecausetheWDTfunctionisalwaysenabled.
IDLE0 Mode
TheIDLE0ModeisenteredwhenanHALTinstructionisexecutedandwhentheFSIDENbitin
theSCCregisterishighandtheFHIDENbitintheSCCregisterislow.IntheIDLE0Modethe
CPUwillbeswitchedoffbutthelowspeedoscillatorwillbeturnedontodrivesomeperipheral
functions.
IDLE1 Mode
TheIDLE1ModeisenteredwhenanHALTinstructionisexecutedandwhentheFHIDENbitinthe
SCCregisterishighandtheFSIDENbitintheSCCregisterishigh.IntheIDLE1ModetheCPU
willbeswitchedoffbutboththehighandlowspeedoscillatorswillbeturnedontoprovideaclock
sourcetokeepsomeperipheralfunctionsoperational.
