Chapter 13 Working with Templates and Clones
To convert a template to a virtual machine
1StartVirtualCenterclient,andlogintotheVirtualCenterServer.
2ClicktheInventorybuttoninthenavigationbar.
Theinventorypanelandtheinformationpaneldisplayinformationabout
manageddatacenters,hosts,resourcepools,andvirtualmachines.Theinventory
toolbarappears.
3 Selectthedatacenterthatcontainsthetemplate.
Thevirtualmachinesandtemplates
associatedwiththedatacenterappearinthe
datacenterpanel.
4ClicktheVirtualMachinestab.
5Right‐clickonthetemplateandchooseConverttoVirtualMachine.
Thetemplateisconvertedtoavirtualmachine.
Deleting Templates
To remove templates from the VirtualCenter inventory
Thisprocedureunregistersthetemplate.Itdoesnotremovethetemplatefilesfromthe
datastore.
1ClicktheInventorybutton.
2 Selecttheappropriatetemplate.
3Right‐clickthetemplate,andchooseRemovefromInventory.
4ClickOKtoconfirmremovingthetemplatefromtheVirtualCenterdatabase.
Allnon‐datastoretemplatefilesareremovedfrom
theVirtualCenterinventory.
To delete a template from disk
1StartVirtualCenterclient,andlogintotheVirtualCenterServer.
2ClicktheInventorybuttoninthenavigationbar,andselectthehostthatcontains
thetemplate.
3 Selectthedatastorethatcontainsthetemplate,andclicktheVirtualMachinetab.
CAUTIONAfteratemplateisdeletedfromahost,thereisnowaytorecoverit.
