disk,specifyadatastorelocationforthedisk,andclickNext.
Enterthedisksizeinmegabytes(MB)or
gigabytes(GB).Thedefaultis4GB.The
availablespaceontheselectedVMFSvolumeislisted.Youcanconfigureadisk
fromassmallas1MBtoaslargeas2TB(2048GB),usingawholenumberofMBor
GB.
Thevirtualdiskshouldbelargeenoughtoholdtheguest
operatingsystemandall
ofthesoftwarethatyouintendtoinstallwithroomfordataandgrowth.
Youcannotchangethevirtualdisk’smaximumcapacitylater,butyoucaninstall
additionalvirtualdiskslaterbyusingtheVirtualMachinePropertiesdialogbox.
Forexample,youneedabout1GBofactual
freespaceonthefilesystemcontaining
thevirtualdisktoinstallWindowsServer2003andapplications,suchasMicrosoft
Office,insidethevirtualmachine.
Youcanlocatethevirtualdiskonthesamedatastoreasthevirtualmachineor
selectadatastoreinanotherlocation.UsetheBrowsebuttonto
locateadatastore.
TheBrowseforDatastoredialogboxappears.
20 SelectTheVirtualdevicenodeanddiskmodeforthevirtualdisk.

a Persistent—Changesareimmediatelyandpermanentlywrittentothedisk.
