Moving Objects in the Inventory

To move an object using drag-and-drop
1FromaVIClient,displaytheappropriateinventoryview.
2 Selecttheobjecttobemovedfromtheappropriateinventoryviewbyclickingit.
Aboxisdisplayedaroundit.Thisindicatestheobjectisselected.
3Dragthemoving
objecttothetargetobject.
Ifthemovingobjectisallowedtomovetothetarget,thetargetobjectis
displayedwithaboxaroundit,indicatingitisselected.
Ifthemovingobjectisnotallowedtomovetothetarget,anaughtsign(zero
withaslash)appears,andtheobjectisnotmoved.
Theinventoryobjectscanbemovedasfollows:
Rootfolder,roothost(ESXServer),networks,anddatastores—Cannotbe
moved.
Folders—Canbemovedwithinadatacenter.
Datacenter—Canbemovedtofoldersatasiblingorparentlevel.
Cluster—Canbemovedbetweenfoldersandwithindatacentersatasibling
orparentlevel.
Host—WhenmanagedbyaVirtualCenterServer,ifahostisinacluster,all
virtualmachinesonthehostmustbeshutdownandthehostmustbeplaced
intomaintenancemodebeforeitcanbemovedfromthecluster.Ahostcanbe
movedbetweenclustersanddatacenters.
