To install the PROM:
Refer to Figure 2.22 and follow the steps below.
1. Before inserting the new PROM, make sure that the PROM is
oriented so that the flat corner of the PROM matches the flat corner
of the socket.
Caution
Make sure that the PROM is oriented correctly before inserting it into
the PROM socket. The PROM will fit into the socket the wrong way!
Installing the PROM incorrectly will damage the circuit board.
Caution
Before you handle the circuit board or any component on the circuit
board, make sure that you are properly grounded using an
electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection kit. When ordering an ESD
protection kit, refer to the part number on page 2–27. Touching the
circuit board without proper grounding can damage sensitive
electronic components—even if you don’t notice any static discharge.
2. Using your fingers, carefully place the PROM in the correct position
over the socket. Press firmly on the face of the PROM until it seats
completely in the socket. See Figure 2.22.
3. Reconnect the inside wire harness and outside wire harness to the
circuit board in the inside trim.
4. Reinstall the inside and outside trim. For instructions, see To
reinstall the inside and outside trim: on page 2-39.
