Installation guide
Network Infrastructure for EtherNet/IP™
viii
Preface
About This Publication
Advances in Ethernet technology and reduced component costs are fueling the growth of Ethernet in plant
floor networks. EtherNet/IP™, the adaptation of the Common Industrial Protocol™ (CIP™) provides
users with the tools to deploy standard Ethernet technology for manufacturing applications while enabling
Internet and enterprise connectivity… anytime, anywhere. The unique performance and environmental
requirements of manufacturing applications require users to select appropriate network infrastructure.
This publication provides an overview of the technologies used to deploy EtherNet/IP and provides
guidelines for deploying infrastructure devices in EtherNet/IP networks.
