Propane Powered Ice Auger
4. Re-install lter into lter housing, and check for proper t.
Check Sparkplug
1. Disconnect ignition coil wire from sparkplug and clean
debris from around plug.
2. Remove the plug and check for the following: pitted
electrode, burned electrode, cracked porcelain, or carbon
deposits around electrode.
3. If any of the previous signs are present, replace sparkplug.
4. To re-install the sparkplug, ensure the gap is set to .024
inches, and torque sparkplug to 7.2 - 8.7 ft-lbs.
NOTE: A loose spark plug may overheat and damage
engine. An over tightened spark plug may damage
threads in the cylinder head.
Check Valve Lash
• Valve lash should be at .004 - .007 inches, if not valve lash
will need to be re-set.
NOTE: Check valve lash at room temperature with
piston at top dead center of compression stroke.
Check Oil and Crankcase Ventilation Line
• Due to constant heat cycles, it is important that you
inspect the oil line (the black line going from the oil
sump to the valve cover) for any signs of cracking, rotting,
or splitting.
• The crankcase ventilation line is the line from the cam
cover under the recoil, to the air lter housing. Ensure this
line is not cracked, split, rotted, or full of moisture and oil.
Check Fittings on Gas Line
• For continued safe operations of your propane unit, the
fuel line should be inspected on a regular basis for any
signs of wear or leaks.
• To nd leaks, use soapy water sprayed onto ttings, if
there is any bubbling, there is a leak. A rotten egg smell
is also an indication of a leak.
• Any leaks should either be sealed with LPG rated thread
sealant, or call for replacement parts.
• Do not use the auger until the leak is xed.
Transporting Your Ice Auger
1. Never transport engine inside an enclosed space or
vehicle. Fuel vapors may ignite causing serious injury or
death.
2. Do not store auger with propane cylinder attached.
Always disconnect the regulator from the propane
cylinder when transporting or storing.
3. The HC40 powerhead is an all position engine. The
powerhead can be laid on any side for short periods of
time. Do not store the unit up-side down. Store the unit
with the spark plug facing up or the unit upright in the
operating position when storing for long periods of time.
Oil can migrate over time. Some oil leakage can occur
over time. Check the oil level before each use.
Long-Term Storage
NOTE: If your ice auger will not be ran for more than one
month, prepare it for long-term storage.
1. Remove auger from powerhead and apply a thin layer of
grease to the output shaft.
2. Always store engine with sparkplug up.
3. Remove all debris from auger and powerhead (engine).
4. Attach blade protector to bottom of auger.
