Service manual
This position remains valid until you power off the printer. If you want to
retain this position even after you turn off the power, store it usingthe Macro
Definition function, which is described later.
Note that you can only change this value immediately after loading paper. If
you feed paper, you cannot change the auto loading value.
Clearing the buffer/All reset
The printer stores received data in a large memory buffer. This creates a
problem when you want to abandon aprintingjob and restart:the printermay
be holding more data in its buffer than it has actually printed, and this
unprinteddatamust becleared outbefore restarting.Turning poweroff isone
way to clear the buffer, but there is another way:
1. Haltthe printingprogram onthe computer. Ifprinting stopsimmediately,
the buffer isclear and therest of thisprocedure isunnecessary. If printing
does not stop, continue as follows:
2. Press the (ON LINIij)button to set the printer off-line. Printing will now
stop, but there may be data remaining in the buffer.
3. Press and hold down the(m) button.
4. While pressing the (-T) button down, press and hold down the
(ONLINE)button.Continueholding these two buttonsdown and youwill
hear a beep tone signaling that the buffer has been cleared. If you hold
these buttons down longer, you will hear three beep tonesand theprinter
has been initialized to the power-on default settings.
5. Release these buttons, make any necessary control panel settings, then
set the printer back on-line.
It isessential to stop the printing program on the computer before you gooff-
line. Otherwise, when you go back on-line the computer will start sending
data again and the printer will continue printing, with data missing from
when the buffer was cleared.
