Loading Paper You can print documents and photos on a variety of paper types and sizes. For details, see page 6. (For instructions on loading envelopes and legal-size paper, see your online User’s Guide.) 1. Pull out the paper cassette. 2. Slide the edge guides outward. 3. Position the guide shown below for the size of paper you’re using.
4. Load the paper with the glossy or printable side face-down. (Load letterhead or pre-printed paper top edge first.) 4 × 6-inch (10 × 15 cm) Letter-size Note: You can load up to 250 sheets of plain paper or 20 sheets of photo paper. Some papers should be loaded one sheet at a time; see your online User’s Guide for details. If you are just making a copy or printing a rough draft, plain paper is fine. However, for the best results, use one of Epson’s special ink jet papers, as listed on page 6.
Using Special Papers Epson offers a wide array of high quality papers, making it easy to maximize the impact of your documents, photos, presentations, and other projects. You can purchase genuine Epson ink and paper at Epson Supplies CentralSM at www.epson.com/ink3 (U.S. sales) or www.epson.ca (Canadian sales). Placing Originals for Copying, Scanning, or Faxing Before you copy, scan, or fax, place your documents or photos on the scanner glass or in the Automatic Document Feeder. Using the Scanner Glass You can place a photo or a document up to letter-size (or A4-size) on the scanner glass. 1. Open the document cover. 2. Place your original face-down on the scanner glass, with the top against the back left corner. 3. Close the cover gently to keep your original in place.
2. Fan the originals, then tap them on a flat surface to even the edges. 3. Insert the originals face-up, top edge first. The ADF icon appears on the screen. Note: If you’re using the 2-up Copy layout, make sure the originals are loaded as shown below. 4. Slide the edge guide against the originals, but not too tight.
Copying a Document Follow the steps in this section to copy black-and-white or color documents. Note: You can use the Copy/Restore Photos option to copy photos onto 4 × 6-inch, 5 × 7inch, 8 × 10-inch, letter-size, or A4-size Epson photo paper (various types available) for instant photo reprints. See the online User’s Guide for details. To turn off the “beep” heard when you press a button, press F Setup, select Printer Setup, then select Sound. Select Off and press OK.
3. Press the Copy button. 4. Press u or d or use the numeric keypad to select the number of copies you want (up to 99). 5. Press l or r to change the copy density (lightness or darkness). 6. To copy your original(s) onto a different size paper, press the Reduce/ Enlarge button and select one of the preset options or a custom paper size. 7. To change the print quality, press the Quality button and choose Draft or Best. 8. To change other print settings, press x Menu, then select Paper and Copy Settings.
Printing From a Memory Card Your Epson printer lets you print photos directly from your digital camera’s memory card; just insert it into the memory card slot and you’re ready to print. See the online User’s Guide for instructions on copying memory card files between your Epson printer and a computer, and printing photos pre-selected in your camera (DPOF™ or Digital Print Order Format). Inserting the Card 1. Make sure your printer is turned on. 2. Insert your card as shown.
Printing Photos From the LCD Screen You can select individual photos for printing as you view them on the LCD display screen. 1. Load several sheets of Epson photo paper (various types available; see page 6). 2. Press the Photo button, then select View and Print Photos. You see this screen: 3. Press l or r to scroll through your photos and display one that you want to print. Note: To crop the photo, press the Display/Crop button. Press + or – to frame the image; use the arrow buttons to move the frame.
Printing From Your Computer This section describes the basic steps for printing from a Windows or Macintosh computer. For detailed instructions on printing, see the online User’s Guide. Tip: It’s a good idea to check for updates to your Epson product software; see page 49. Printing in Windows 1. Open a photo or document in a printing program, and select the print option. 2. Select your product, then click the Preferences or Properties button. 3. On the Main tab, select basic print settings.
6. Click OK to save your settings. 7. Click Print to start printing. This window appears and shows the progress of your print job. Cancel printing Printing With a Macintosh Follow the steps below to print from Mac OS® X 10.5 to 10.6. Note: If you’re printing from Mac OS X 10.4, see your online User’s Guide for instructions. 1. Open a photo or document in a printing program, open the File menu, and select Print. 2. Select your product as the Printer setting. Select your Epson product Click to expand 3.
4. Select basic copy and page settings. For borderless photos, choose a Paper Size setting with a Sheet Feeder - Borderless option. Note: If the setting you want isn’t shown (for example, Scale), check for it in your application before printing or check for it at the bottom of this window. Cancel printing Pause or resume printing Select the print job Selecting the Correct Paper Type Select the correct Type (see page 14) or Media Type (see page 16) setting in your printer software so the ink coverage can be adjusted accordingly.
Faxing a Document Your product lets you send faxes by entering fax numbers, selecting entries from a speed dial or group dial list, or using the one-touch dial buttons. Using the Automatic Document Feeder, you can fax up to 30 pages at a time. Note: You can also send a fax from your computer using the Epson FAX Utility. With Windows, see the online User’s Guide. With Macintosh, download the utility from the Epson support web site listed on page 54.
In Auto Answer mode, if the incoming call is a fax and you pick up the phone or the answering machine answers, the WorkForce 630/632/633/635 Series automatically begins receiving the fax. If the other party is a caller, the phone can be used as normal or a message can be left on the answering machine. Note: Any phone or answering machine must be connected to the EXT. port for your product to detect an incoming fax call when the phone is picked up.
Entering Your Phone Number 1. From the Header screen, press u or d to select Your Phone Number, then press OK. You see the phone number input screen. 2. Use the numeric keypad to enter your phone number (up to 20 digits). 3. When you’re done, press OK. 4. Press x Menu to exit the Fax Menu. Using the Keypad to Enter Numbers and Characters When entering phone numbers and text in Fax mode, follow these guidelines: ■ To enter a fax number, use the numeric keypad.
Sending a Fax From the Control Panel You can send a fax by manually entering a fax number, as described below. Note: To dial the number using a telephone, by redialing, or by selecting from your speed dial list, see the next section. To send a fax from your computer using the Epson FAX Utility, see your online User’s Guide. 1. Press the Fax button. 2. Place your original(s) for faxing (see page 8). Note: To scan a two-sided document (WorkForce 635 only), press the and select On. 2-Sided button 3.
■ If you’ve connected a telephone to the product, dial the number from the phone. Select Send, then press the B&W or Color x Start button. Note: Don’t hang up the phone until you begin transmitting the fax. Receiving Faxes Before receiving faxes, make sure you load plain paper and select the correct settings for the paper you’ve loaded. 1. Press the Fax button. 2. Press x Menu and select Fax Print Settings. 3. Select Paper Size and make sure the setting matches the size of paper you loaded.
Scanning a Document or Photo You can use your WorkForce 630/632/633/635 Series to scan original documents and photos and save them on your computer. Quick Scanning With the Scan Button Use the Scan button to quickly scan a photo or document and save it on your computer. You can even scan a photo and have it automatically included in an email message. Note: For Mac OS X 10.6, see “Scanning With Mac OS X 10.6” on page 25. 1. Place your original document or photo as shown on page 8. 2. Press the Scan button.
Scanning With Epson Scan Software You can scan from any TWAIN-compliant application using Epson Scan. Or you can start Epson Scan directly from your computer and save your image to a file. Note: For Mac OS X 10.6, see “Scanning With Mac OS X 10.6” on page 25. For detailed scanning instructions, see the online User’s Guide. 1. Place your original document or photo as shown on page 8. 2. Do one of the following to start Epson Scan: ■ Windows: Double-click the EPSON Scan icon on your desktop.
4. Click Scan. The image is scanned and you see its icon in Windows Explorer or Macintosh Finder. Scanning With Mac OS X 10.6 You can scan original documents and photos and save them as files on your computer. 1. Open an image editing application such as Preview and select Import From Scanner from the File menu, then select your product. 2. If you would like to select scan settings, such as Color Restoration and file save settings, click Show Details. 3. Click the Scan button to begin scanning.
Maintaining Your Product Follow the instructions in this chapter to check and clean the print head nozzles, check ink levels, and replace ink cartridges. If you need to align the print head, see the online User’s Guide. Caution: To keep your product looking like new, don’t place anything on top of the cover or use it as a writing surface, If you need to clean the cover, use only a soft, non-abrasive microfiber-type cloth.
Cleaning the Print Head If print quality has declined and the nozzle check indicates clogged nozzles, you can clean the print head. Print head cleaning uses ink, so clean it only if necessary. Note: You cannot clean the print head if an ink cartridge is expended, and may not be able to clean it when a cartridge is low. You must replace the cartridge first (see page 29). 1. Load a few sheets of plain paper. 2. Press F Setup. 3. Press u or d to select Maintenance, then press OK. 4.
Note: Printing stops when an ink cartridge is expended. If a color cartridge is expended, you may be able to continue printing temporarily with black ink; see the online User’s Guide for more information. If the black cartridge is expended, you must replace it to continue printing. 1. Press F Setup. 2. Press OK to select Ink Levels. 3. The ink cartridge status is displayed. See page 29 to replace a cartridge, if necessary. 4. Press y Back to exit.
Yields vary considerably based on images printed, print settings, paper type, frequency of use, and temperature. For print quality, a small amount of ink remains in the cartridge after the “replace cartridge” indicator comes on. The product ships with full cartridges and part of the ink from the first cartridges is used for priming the product. For best printing results, use up a cartridge within six months of opening the package and before the expiration date on the cartridge box.
4. Squeeze the tab on the cartridge and lift it up. Dispose of it carefully. Do not take the used cartridge apart or try to refill it. Warning: If ink gets on your hands, wash them thoroughly with soap and water. If ink gets into your eyes, flush them immediately with water. Keep ink cartridges out of the reach of children and don’t drink the ink. 5. Before you open the new cartridge package, shake it gently four or five times. Then remove it from the package. 6.
Network Setup This section provides detailed instructions for setting up your product on a wireless or wired network. Make sure you follow the instructions on the Start Here sheet to set up your product, choose your connection, and install the software. The on-screen instructions during the installation process help you set up your network connection. Follow the instructions in this chapter only if you need additional help: ■ For wireless network setup, see below.
Installing for the First Time Before you begin, make sure that you have the following information ready and write it in the space provided below: ■ Network name (SSID): _________________________________________ ■ Network password: ____________________________________________ Note: If your network password contains uppercase (ABC) or lowercase (abc) letters, be sure to note them correctly. If you don’t know your network name (SSID) or network password, contact the person who set up your wireless network.
5. When you see this screen, select Wireless connection and click Next. 6. When you see this screen, select Set up printer for the first time, then click Next. 7. Mac OS X 10.6: At the next screen, click Next. Then skip to “Setting Up With the Product Buttons” on page 38 to set up the product without using a temporary USB connection.
8. When you see this screen, select a wireless network setup method, then click Next. Tip: If you need help selecting a wireless network setup method, click Which option should I choose for more information on setup methods. 9. At the next screen, click Next. 10. Do one of the following: ■ If you selected Temporarily connect USB cable, continue with “Setting Up With a Temporary USB Cable” below.
2. When you see this screen, connect the product to your computer with a USB cable. 3. Follow the on-screen instructions to continue installing the software. 4. When you see the Firewall Warning screen, click Next. Note: If you see a firewall alert message, click Unblock or Allow to let EpsonNet Setup continue. Do not select Ask Me Later, Keep Blocking, or Block.
5. When you see a screen like the following, select your network name (SSID) from the list, then click Next. Note: If your network name isn’t in the list, select Enter Manually. If your network name contains uppercase (ABC) or lowercase (abc) letters, enter them correctly. 6. If you see a screen like the following, enter your security key or passphrase, then click Next. Note: If your security key contains uppercase (ABC) or lowercase (abc) letters, enter them correctly.
7. Wait while EpsonNet Setup configures your product for the network. 8. Follow the instructions on the screen to remove the USB cable from the product and your computer. 9. When you see the Installation Complete screen, print a test page, then click Finish. 10. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the rest of your software. When installation is complete, remove the CD and restart your computer.
Setting Up With the Product Buttons If you are using Mac OS X 10.6, or you don’t have a USB cable to set up the product on your wireless network, follow these steps to set it up using the product buttons: 1. Follow the instructions on the screen to start the product’s wireless Setup Wizard. 2. When you see this screen, use the product’s buttons to select the name of your wireless network, then press OK. When you’re finished, click Next.
3. When you see this screen, do one of the following: ■ If your wireless network has security enabled, use the product’s buttons to enter your network password. Follow the instructions on the screen. If your password has uppercase or lowercase letters, be sure to enter them correctly. Then click Next and go to step 4. ■ If your wireless network doesn’t have security enabled, click Next and continue with step 4.
7. When you see the Firewall Warning screen, click Next. Note: If you see a firewall alert message, click Unblock or Allow to let EpsonNet Setup continue. Do not select Ask Me Later, Keep Blocking, or Block. 8. Wait while EpsonNet Setup configures your product for the network. 9. When you see the Installation Complete screen, print a test page, then click Finish. 10. Follow the instructions on the screen to install the rest of your software.
To set up additional computers to print to the product, see “Setting Up Additional Computers” on page 42. Entering Your SSID Manually If your network doesn’t broadcast its name (SSID), follow these steps to enter it: 1. From the Select SSID screen on the product control panel, press u or d to select Other SSIDs, then press OK. 2. Use the arrow buttons on the control panel to enter your network name.
Setting Up Additional Computers 1. Make sure your product is turned on. 2. Insert the product software CD. 3. Windows 7 and Windows Vista: If you see the AutoPlay window, click Run Setup.exe. When you see the User Account Control screen, click Yes or Continue. Windows XP: When you see the Software Installation screen, continue with step 4. Mac OS X: Double-click the Epson icon. 4. When you see this screen, click Install. 5. When you see this screen, select Wireless connection and click Next.
6. When you see this screen, select The printer is already on my wireless network, then click Next. 7. Wait while the software is installed. 8. Mac OS X 10.6: Skip to step 13 on page 44. 9. When you see the Firewall Warning screen, click Next. Note: If you see a firewall alert message, click Unblock or Allow to let EpsonNet Setup continue. Do not select Ask Me Later, Keep Blocking, or Block.
10. If you see a screen like this one, select the product you would like to set up, then click Next. 11. Wait while EpsonNet Setup configures your product for the network. 12. When you see the Installation Complete screen, print a test page, then click Finish. 13. Follow the instructions on the screen to install the rest of your software. When installation is complete, remove the CD and restart your computer.
Wired (Ethernet) Network Setup The steps in this section provide detailed instructions for setting up your product on a wired (Ethernet) network. Follow these steps to set up your product for the first time or, if your product is already on your wired network, to set up additional computers to print to the product. Note: If you’re having trouble setting up your product, see “Network Problems” on page 49. 1. Make sure your product is turned on.
5. When you see this screen, select Wired network connection and click Next. 6. When you see this screen, do one of the following: ■ For a first-time installation, choose Set up printer for the first time, then click Next. ■ If the printer has already been set up for network printing and you want to be able to print from an additional computer, choose The printer is already on my Ethernet network, then click Next.
7. For first-time installation only: Connect the product to your router, access point, or hub with an Ethernet network cable, then click Next. 8. Mac OS X 10.6: Skip to step 15 on page 48. 9. Wait while the software is installed, then click Next to start network installation. 10. When you see the Firewall Warning screen, click Next. Note: If you see a firewall alert message, click Unblock or Allow to let EpsonNet Setup continue. Do not select Ask Me Later, Keep Blocking, or Block.
11. If you see a screen like this one, select the product you would like to set up, then click Next. 12. Wait while EpsonNet Setup configures your product for the network. 13. If you see an Installation Complete screen that includes a Print Test Page button, click it to print a test page. 14. Click Finish. 15. Follow the instructions on the screen to install the rest of your software. When installation is complete, remove the CD and restart your computer.
Solving Problems If you have a problem with your Epson product, check the messages on the LCD screen to diagnose the cause. You can also check the basic troubleshooting suggestions below, or your online User’s Guide. Checking for Software Updates Periodically, it’s a good idea to check Epson’s support website for free updates to your product software. Open your online User’s Guide and select Download the Latest Software or visit Epson’s support website at epson.com/support (U.S.) or epson.
■ Make sure there aren’t any access restrictions (such as MAC address filtering) set on the wireless router. If access restrictions are set, register the product’s MAC address on the router. Print a Network Status Sheet (see page 50) to obtain the MAC address. Then see your router’s manual for instructions. ■ If your wireless router has security enabled, make sure you entered the WEP key or WPA passphrase correctly. ■ Remove and reinsert the CD to reinstall your product software.
Printing and Copying Problems ■ Make sure the size of paper you loaded matches the paper size selected on the control panel or in your printer software. ■ Letter-size paper is automatically selected for copying. If your legal-size document is cropped, press Reduce/Enlarge and select Legal->Letter. ■ Position your original against the back left corner of the scanner glass. If the edges are cropped, move your original away from the edges slightly. Place the document flat against the scanner glass.
3. Remove the paper cassette. If necessary, carefully stand the printer on its side to remove any paper. If documents don’t feed correctly in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), make sure the paper is not bent, folded, or curled. If paper has jammed: 1. Open the ADF cover and remove any jammed paper. Caution: Do not try to remove the paper without opening the ADF cover or you could damage the mechanism. 2. Lift the scanner cover and remove any paper caught beneath it.
■ If the product is connected to a DSL phone line, you must have a DSL filter connected to the phone jack. Contact your DSL provider for the filter. ■ If you connected a telephone or answering machine, make sure it is connected to the EXT. port. Print Quality Problems ■ Make sure your paper is loaded printable side down (usually the whiter, brighter, or glossy side). ■ For the best print quality, use Epson papers (see page 6) and genuine Epson ink cartridges (see page 29).
