Printer States and Error Reporting
This section describes various printer states and how the printer uses its beeper and LED indicators to
report errors.
Initialization
Hardware Initialization
Initialization occurs when the printer is turned on or when the printer receives an /INIT signal (negative
pulse) or cold-reset command (remote RS command). Initialization does the following:
Initializes the printer mechanism.
Clears all data in the buffers.
Cancels downloaded character definition.
Places the printer in standby state, if no errors occur.
Executes software initialization (see below).
Software Initialization
The control code ESC @ also initializes the printer. This initialization
Clears all unprinted data from the buffers.
Resets all printer settings to their default values.
Error Conditions
If any of the following occurs, the printer reports an error and automatically goes off-line:
Paper out, paper jam, or paper eject error
Release lever operation error (detected when the position of the release lever does not match the
paper path)
Carriage control, power supply voltage, or CG access error
