abnormal.
The carriage
moves, but no
printing occurs.
Printhead FFC
is disconnected
or damaged.
Check that the head FFC is
connected securely to the
board and carriage.
Connect or
replace the
printhead FFC.
The printhead is
defective
Measure the coil resistance
of the printhead. See Table
5-4. It should be about 8 .
Replace the
printhead; if
necessary,
replace the
printer driver.
A dot does not
print.
The printhead is
defective.
Check to see if the
printhead wire is broken.
Measure the printhead coil
resistance. See Table 5-6.
It should be about 8 .
If there’s a short circuit in
the coil, check to see if
there’s a short circuit in the
driver too.
Replace the
printhead.
Replace the
printhead driver, if
necessary.
The printhead is
defective.
Check to see if the printhead
wire is broken.
Replace the
printhead.
The printout is
uneven or too
light.
The platen gap
is not adjusted
properly.
Set the gap adjustment lever
to the first position. The
platen gap should be 0.365 ±
0.015.
Adjust the platen
gap. See
Chapter 4.
Abnormal
paper feed.
Printing is
performed;
however, paper
does not feed,
or does not feed
smoothly.
There are
foreign objects
in the paper
path.
Visually inspect the paper
path.
Remove any
foreign objects.
PF motor does
not operate
normally.
Check to see if there are
foreign objects blocking the
motor or drive gear.
Check to see if the gears
are damaged or worn out.
Remove any
foreign objects, or
replace the gears.
The PF motor is
defective.
Measure the coil resistance
of the PF motor. See Table
5-3. It should be about 16
± 10%.
If there’s a short circuit in
the coil, check to see if
there’s a short circuit in the
driver too.
Replace the PF
motor; if
necessary,
replace the driver.
