Listing the Contents of a Diskette
You will often want to see what files are stored on your
diskettes. For example, before you format a used
diskette and erase its contents, always list the contents
of the diskette to be sure you will not erase any
valuable files.
You can use the DIR command to list the names of all
files on a diskette. At the A) prompt, type:
DIR
and press Enter. MS-DOS lists the directory of files
on the diskette in drive A.
To see the files on the diskette in drive B, type:
DIR B :
and press
Enter.
The DIR command lists the names of the files, and
also lists any subdirectories, the sizes of the files in
bytes, and the date and time each file was last
modified. At the end of the directory listing, you see
the number of files and available bytes on your
diskette.
