Sector
A contiguous section of a disk track that provides a
space where the computer can store data.
Self test
The initial diagnostics procedures a system performs to
check its hardware.
Serial
The type of interface that transmits data one bit at a
time. See also Interface, Parallel, and RS-232C.
Software
The programs that enable your computer to perform
the tasks and functions you indicate.
System diskette
A diskette that contains the operating system.
Tracks
Addressable, concentric circles on a diskette,
resembling the grooves on a record, which help to
divide the diskette into separate accessible areas. There
are 40 tracks on each side of a double-sided,
double-density diskette.
Write
To store data on a disk.
Write-protect
To prevent a diskette from being overwritten by
placing a write-protect tab over the notch on the side
of the diskette. When a diskette is write-protected, you
cannot erase, change, or record over its contents.
