Character
Anything that can print in a single space on the page
or the screen. Includes numbers, letters, punctuation
marks, and graphic symbols.
CMOS
Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor. A
method for making silicon chips.
Code
A system of symbols for representing data or
instructions. Also any software program or part of a
program.
Command
An instruction you enter on the keyboard to direct
your computer to perform a specific function.
Configuration
The particular setup of a group of components. For
example, a typical system configuration consists of a
CPU with two floppy disk drives, connected to a
monochrome monitor, and a printer.
Control code
A command (generated when you hold down the Ctrl
key and press another key on the keyboard) that
instructs your computer to perform a specific function.
CPU
Central Processing Unit. The piece of hardware that
interprets instructions, performs the tasks you indicate,
keeps track of stored data, and controls all input and
output operations.
