diskette
— This refers to removable data storage disks, sometimes
also called floppies or floppy disks. Diskettes generally
come in two sizes: 5.25” and 3.5”.
display
— The information/graphics visible on the monitor screen.
DOS
— Disk Operating System.
This is a set of commands is
used to control the operations of a computer and its
peripheral components.
DRAM
— Dynamic Random Access Memory. This type of RAM
chip differs from Static Random Access Memory (SRAM).
driver
— A program that lets a peripheral device and a computer
function harmoniously; a hard disk driver controls exchan-
ges between a hard disk and a computer.
error message
— This is an audible or visual indication of hardware or
software malfunction or an illegal data-entry attempt.
execute
It means to carry out an instruction or perform a routine.
expanded memory
— It is memory beyond DOS’s 640KB limit. Expanded
memory is necessary when the maximum 640KB of con-
ventional memory is not sufficient for a large program.
expansion slot
This is a slots in which adapters and for cards can be
housed.
file
— A file is a collection of related information/data you store
on a diskette or a hard disk drive.
