ARoamAbout SwitchusesaLayer2forwardingdatabase(FDB)toforwardtrafficwithinaVLAN.
TheentriesintheforwardingdatabasemapMACaddressestothephysicalorvirtualports
connectedtothoseMACaddresseswithinaparticularVLAN.Toforwardapackettoanother
deviceinaVLAN,the
RoamAboutSwitchsearchestheforwardingdatabaseforthepacket’s
destinationMACaddress,thenforwardsthepacketouttheportassociatedwiththe MAC
address.
Types of Forwarding Database Entries
Theforwardingdatabasecancontainthefollowingtypesofentries:
• Dynamic—Adynamicentryisatemporaryentrytha tremainsinthedatabaseonlyuntilthe
entryisnolongerused.Bydefault,adynamicentryagesoutifitremainsunusedfor300
seconds(5minutes).Alldynamicentriesareremoved
iftheRoamAboutSwitchispowered
downorrebooted.
Note: The display can include and wired authentication ports, because MSS dynamically adds these
ports to a VLAN when handling user traffic for the VLAN.
