Upgrading the System Image
ToupgradetheswitchfromoneMSSversiontoanother,usetheprocedureinthissection.Fora
givenrelease,theremaybenotesandcautionsthatapplyonlytothatrelease.Consequently,
beforeupgradingtoanewsoftwareimage,youshouldalsoconsultthereleasenotesforthat
release.
Preparing the RoamAbout Switch for the Upgrade
Usethefollowingcommandtosavetheconfiguration.Unsavedchangeswillbelostduringthe
upgradeprocedure:
save config [filename]
Tobackupthetheswitch’sfiles:
backup system [tftp:/ip-addr/]filename [all | critical]
Torestoreaswitchthathasbeenbackedup,usethefollowingcommand:
restore system [tftp:/ip-addr/]filename [all | critical] [force]

Upgrading an Individual Switch Using the CLI
1. Savetheconfiguration,usingthesaveconfigcommand.
2. Backuptheswitch,usingthebackupsystemcommand.
3. CopythenewsystemimageontoaTFTP server.
Forexample,logintohttp://www.enterasys.com/products/wireless/productsusingaweb
browseronyourTFTPserver,clickonSoftwareDownloadLibrary,anddownloadthenew
imageonto
theserver.
4. CopythenewsystemimagefilefromtheTFTPserverintoabootpartitionintheswitch’s
nonvolatilestorage.
Youcancopytheimagefileonlyintothebootpartitionthatwasnotusedforthemostrecent
restart.Forexample,ifthecurrentlyrunningimagewasbootedfrom
partition0,youcancopy
thenewimageonlyintopartition1.
5. Setthebootpartitiontotheonewiththeupgradeimageforthenextrestart.
Toverifythatthenewimagefileisinstalled,typeshowboot.
Caution: Save the configuration, then create a backup of your switch files before you
upgrade the switch. Enterasys Networks recommends that you make a backup of the switch files
before you install the upgrade. If an error occurs during the upgrade, you can restore your switch to
its previous state.
Note: If you have made configuration changes but have not saved the changes, use the save
config command to save the changes, before you back up the switch.
