Using an Image File’s MD5 Checksum To Verify Its Integrity
IfyoudownloadanimagefilefromtheEnterasysNetworkssupportsiteandinstallitina
RoamAboutSwitch’sbootpartition,youcan verifythatthefilehasnotbeencorrupted whilebeing
copied.
md5 [boot0: | boot1:]filename
Toverifyanimagefile’sintegrity:
1. DownloadtheimagefilefromtheEnterasysNetworkssupportsiteontoaTFTPserver,and
usetheCLIcopytftpcommandontheRoamAboutSwitchtocopytheimageontotheswi tch’s
nonvolatilestorage.
2. OntheEnterasysNetworkssupportsite,clickontheMD5linknext
tothelinkfortheimage
file,todisplaytheMD5checksumforthefile.Hereisanexample:
b9cf7f527f74608e50c70e8fb896392a RBT040003.020
3. OntheRoamAboutSwitch,usethedircommandtodisplaythecontentsofnonvolatile
storage.
4. Enteracommandsuchasthefollowing tocalculatethechecksumforthefile:
pubs# md5 boot0:RBT040003.020
MD5 (boot0:RBT040003.020) = b9cf7f527f74608e50c70e8fb896392a
5. ComparethechecksumonthesupportsitewiththechecksumcalculatedbytheRoamAbout
Switch.Iftheymatch,thenthefilehasnotbeencorrupted.
6. Ifyouhavenotalreadydoneso,usethesetbootpartitioncommandtoconfigurethe
RoamAboutSwitchtobootfromthepartitioncontainingthenew
image.
7. Usetheresetsystem[force]commandtorestarttheswitchusingthenewimage.
Note: You must include the boot partition name in the filename. For example, you must
specify boot0:RBT040003.020. If you specify only RBT040003.020, the CLI displays a
message stating that the file does not exist.
