MSSperiodicallysendskeepaliveprobestowirelessclientstoverifythattheclientsarestill
present.Thekeepaliveprobesarenulldataframessentasunicaststoeachclient.MSSexpects
eachclienttorespondwithanAck.MSSsendsthekeepalivesevery10seconds.Youcandisable
thekeepalivesbut
thekeepaliveintervalisnotconfigurable.
MSSalsomaintainsanidletimerforeachuser(wirelessclient).Eachtimetheclientsendsdataor
respondstoakeepaliveprobe,MSSresetstheidletimerto0fortheclient.However,iftheclient
remainsidleforthe periodoftheidle
timer,MSSchangestheclient’ssessiontotheDisassociated
state.Thedefaultidletimeoutvalueis180seconds(3minutes).Youcanchangethetimeouttoa
valuefrom20to86400seconds.Todisablethetimeout,specify0.
Keepaliveprobesandtheuseridletimeoutareconfigurable onaservice
profilebasis.
Disabling Keepalive Probes
Todisableorreenablekeepaliveprobesinaserviceprofile,usethefollowingcommand:
set service-profile name idle-client-probing {enable | disable}
Changing or Disabling the User Idle Timeout
Tochangetheuseridleti meout foraserviceprofile,usethefollowingcommand:
set service-profile name user-idle-timeout seconds

Note: MSS temporarily keeps session information for disassociated web-portal clients to allow them
time to reassociate after roaming. (See “Configuring the Web Portal WebAAA Session Timeout
Period” on page 17-35.)
