Introducing the Enterasys Networks Mobility System
TheMobilitySystemisanenterprise‐classWLANsolutionthatseamlesslyintegrateswithan
existingwiredenterprisenetwork.TheMobilitySystemprovidessecureconnectivitytoboth
wirelessandwiredusersinlargeenvironmentssuchasofficebuildings,hospitals,anduniversity
campusesandinsmallenvironmentssuchasbranchoffices.
TheMobility
SystemfulfillsthethreefundamentalrequirementsofanenterpriseWLAN:It
eliminatesthedistinctionbetweenwiredandwirelessnetworks,allowsuserstoworksafelyfrom
anywhere(securemobility),andprovidesacomprehensivesuiteofintuitivetoolsforplanningand
managingthenetworkbeforeandafterdeployment,greatlyeasingthe
operationalburdenonIT
resources.
TheMobilitySystemconsistsofthefollowingcomponents:
• RoamAboutSwitchManager(RASM)toolsuite—Afull‐featuredgraphicaluserinterface
(GUI)applicationusedtoplan,configure,deploy,andmanageaWLANanditsusers
• OneormoreRoamAboutSwitches—Distributed,intelligentmachinesformanaginguser
connectivity,connecting
andpoweringaccesspoints,andconnectingtheWLANtothewired
networkbackbone
• MultipleAccessPoints(APs)—Wirelessaccesspointsthattransmitandreceiveradio
frequency(RF)signalstoandfromwirelessusersandconnectthemtoaRoamAboutSwitch
• MobilitySystemSoftware (MSS)—TheoperatingsystemthatrunsallRoamAboutSwitches
andaccesspointsinaWLAN,andisaccessiblethroughacommand‐lineinterface(CLI),the
WebViewinterface,ortheRoamAboutSwitchManagerGUI
