Session Load Balancing
Youcanassignaccesspointstoaload‐balancinggroup.Aload‐balancinggrouphelpsreduce
congestionbydistributingclientsessionsamongtheaccesspointsinthegroup.Forexample,ifan
802.11b/gradiooperatingonchannel1issupportingmoresessionsthananeighboring802.11b/g
radiooperatingonchannel6,
theload‐balancingfeaturecanrejectassociationrequeststothe
radioonchannel1.
Tobalancethesessions,MSSrejectsanassociationrequestforanaccesspoint’sradioifthatradio
hasatleastfourmoreactivesessionsthantheradioofthesametypewiththeleastnumberof
activesessionswithinthegroup.Iftherejectedclientassociateswithanotheraccesspointinthe
samegroup,thesessionloadamongtheaccesspointsinthegroupbecomesmorebalanced.
Loadbalancingisbasedonlyonassociationrequestsfornewsessions.Addinganaccesspointtoa
groupdoesnot
affectsessionsthatarealreadyactiveontheaccesspoint.Inaddition,MSSdoes
notattempttorebalancesessionswhenaclientdisassociatesfromanaccesspoint.IfMSSrejects
anassociationrequestforload‐balancingreasonsbutnotforauthenticationreasons,therejection
doesnotcountasanauthentication
failure.
EnterasysNetworksrecommendsthatyouconfiguresmallgroupsandensurethatalltheradiosin
thegroupprovidecomparablecoveragewithinthesameservice area.

AserviceprofilecontrolsadvertisementandencryptionforanSSID.Youcanspecifythe
following:
•WhetherSSIDsthatusetheserviceprofilearebeaconed
•WhethertheSSIDsareencryptedorclear(unencrypted)
•ForencryptedSSIDs,theencryptionsettings touse
•Thefallthruauthenticationtypeforusersthatarenotauthenticatedwith802.1Xor
MAC
authentication
