Configuring DNS Servers
YoucanconfigureaRoamAboutSwitchtouseoneprimaryDNSserveranduptofivesecondary
DNSserverstoresolveDNSqueries.
TheRoamAboutSwitchalwayssendsarequesttotheprimaryDNSserverfirst.TheRoamAbout
SwitchsendsarequesttoasecondaryDNSserveronlyiftheprimary
DNSserverdoesnot
respond.
Adding a DNS Server
ToaddaDNSserver,usethefollowingcommand:
set ip dns server ip-addr {primary | secondary}
Removing a DNS Server
ToremoveaDNSserver,usethefollowingcommand:
clear ip dns server ip-addr
Configuring a Default Domain Name
YoucanconfigureasingledefaultdomainnameforDNSqueries.TheRoamAboutSwitch
appendsthedefaultdomainnametohostnamesyouenterincommands.Forexample,youcan
configuretheRoamAboutSwitchtoautomaticallyappendthedomainnameexample.comtoany
hostnamethatdoesnothaveadomainname.In
thiscase,youcan enterpingchrisinsteadofping
chris.example.com,andtheRoamAboutSwitchautomaticallyrequeststheDNSservertosendthe
IPaddressforchris.example.com.
TooverridethedefaultdomainnamewhenenteringahostnameinaCLIcommand,enteraperiod
attheendofthehostname.
Forexample,ifthedefaultdomainnameisexample.com,enterchris.if
thehostnameischrisandnotchris.example.com.
AliasestakeprecedenceoverDNS.Whenyouenterahostname,MSSchecksforanaliaswiththat
namefirst,beforeusingDNStoresolvethename.(Forinformationaboutaliases,see
“Configuring
andManagingAliases”onpage 5 ‐18.)
Adding the Default Domain Name
Toaddthedefaultdomainname,usethefollowingcommand:
set ip dns domain name
Specifyadomainnameofupto64 alphanumericcharacters.
Removing the Default Domain Name
Toremovethedefaultdomainname,usethefollowingcommand:
clear ip dns domain
