Configuring Wireless Services
What Are Services?
Aserviceisaconceptthatrepresentsasetofoptionsyouconfigureanddeployonyourwireless
network;itisnotaselectableitemintheRASMinterface.Servicesareconfiguredtoprovide
variouslevelsofwirelessnetworkaccesstousers,su chassecureemployeeaccess,guestaccess,
multihosted
access,orVoiceoverWirelessIP(VoWIP)access.
Youcanconfigureaservicetobeindependentofotherservicesonyourwirelessnetwork,oryou
canshareconfigurationcomponentsamongservices.Forexample,multihostedaccessistypically
fullyisolatedfromotherservices (nosharedconfiguration),whileservicesthatprovide
forguest
andemployeeaccessinasinglecorporationmightshareacommonradioprofile.Inthisway,you
canreusepartoftheserviceconfigurationforotherservicesyouwanttoprovide.Youcould
configureaserviceforemployeeaccess;thenreusepartofthe configurationtoprovideservices
for
guestaccess.
Eachservicehaspotentialauthenticationtypes;forexample,802.1X,Webpage,MACaddress,or
openaccess.OpenAccessissometimescalledlastresort.Eachservicealsohaspotentialencryption
types,suchas802.11i,WPA,WEP,orunencrypted.

Note: The configuration examples in this section take place on a RoamAbout Switch already in a
network plan. However, you also can preconfigure services in a policy and apply the policy to
RoamAbout Switches later.
