Serial Number and License Key
TheserialnumberisincludedwithyourRASMsoftwarepackaging.Youmustrequestalicense
keyfromEnterasys Networksforeachhostonwhichyouplantousesiteplanningormonitoring.
OnelicenseallowsyoutouseRASMplanningorinstallthemonitoringserviceononesystem.
Dependingonthelicense,
youmightalsohaverestrictionsonthenumberofaccesspointsyoucan
manageusingRASM.
Youcanusetheserialnumberandavalidhostnametorequestlicensekeysforthefollowing
typesoflicenses:
•RFPlanning—EnablestheRFmodellingfeaturesofplanning.WithanRFPlanninglicense,
you
cancreateRFobstacles,computeandplaceequipment,assignradiochannels,and
optimizeradiopowersettings.WithoutanRFPlanninglicense,youstillcanimportorcreate
floorplansandcreatecoverageareas.
•RASMServices—EnablesyoutoinstallRASMServices(theRASMserver).
Whenrequestingalicensekey,youmustprovide
yourserialnumberandthehostnameofthe
systemonwhichRASMistobeinstalled.Youmustalsoindicatethefea ture(s )forwhichyouwant
tohavealicense.Specifythehostnameofthe hostwheretheclient(forRFPlanning)orserver(for
RASMServices)willbe
installed.Thehostnameyouprovidewhenyourequestthekeymust
matchthehostnameonthehostwhereyouinstalltheproduct.
Dependingonthelicense,youmightalsohaverestrictionsonthenumberofRoamAboutAccess
PointsyoucanmanageusingRASM.
EnterasysNetworksrecommendsthatyourequest
alicensekeythroughRASMafterinstallation.
Ifthatisnotpossible,youcancontacttheEnterasysNetworksTechnicalAssistanceCenter(TAC).

HP OpenView Network Node Manager
IfyoualreadyhaveanHPOpenViewenvironmentandwanttointegrateRASMintothis
environment,youhavethe optionofinsta llingtheHPOpenViewpluginrequiredtouseNetwork
NodeManagerwithRoamAboutSwitchManager.MakesurethatHPOpenViewisalready
installedbeforeinstallingRASMwiththeplug
in.
Resource Allocation
Table 17containsgeneralrecommendedguidelinesforhardwarerequirementsandmemory
allocationbasedonthenumberofradiosandRoamAboutswitchesyourserverwillsupport.
AlargernumberofRoamAboutswitchessuggestsmoreconnectionsanddataprocessing,which
willrequiremoreCPUpower.Alargernumberofradiossuggestsmoredata
(includingclient
sessions)whichrequiresmoreRAMandstorage.
