Access Point RBT-4102 Conversion
ThissectiondescribeshowtoconvertanEnterasys NetworksRoamAboutAccessPointRBT‐4102
operatinginstandalonemodetooperateinthinmodewiththe EnterasysRBT‐8xxxseriesof
wirelessswitches.
Logically,theprocessappearstotheRBT‐4102asafirmwareupgrade,andthereforecanbe
performedwithoutrequiringphysical
accesstothedevice.ToconvertathinmodeRBT‐4102back
tostandalonemoderequiresphysicalaccesstotheAP,referto“ReturningtoStandaloneMode”
onpage B‐5.
Preparing Deployed RBT-4102s for Conversion
ToconvertRBT‐4102sthathavealreadybeendeployedinaproductionnetwork,performthe
followingstepspriortoconversion:
1. ConnectyourRoamAboutwirelessswitch,suchastheRBT‐8100,tothenetworkandverify
thatithasLayer2orLayer3connectivitywiththeRBT‐4102.
2. Ensurethatthedeployed
RBT‐4102hasaccesstoaDHCPserver,soitcanbeassignedanIP
addresswhenitbootsinthinmode.
IftheRoamAboutwirelessswitchisonthesameLayer2networkastheRBT‐4102,theswitch
canactasaDHCPserver.(RefertoDHCPServer,
intheRoamAboutMobilitySystemSoftware
ConfigurationGuideformoreinformation.)
3. IftheRoamAboutwirelessswitchisreachablebywayofLayer3connectivity,ensurethatthe
switchisconfiguredwithawellknownDNSentry.(RefertoConfiguringandManagingDNS
oftheRoamAboutMobilitySystem SoftwareConfigurationGuidefor
moreinformation.)
4. ConfiguretheRoamAboutwirelessswitchtoacceptthisRBT‐4102asavalidAPinthe
network.(RefertoConfiguringAccessPoints,intheRoamAboutMobilitySystemSoftware
ConfigurationGuideformoreinformation.)
